16. Mechanisms and Biological Costs of Bacterial Resistance to Antimicrobial Peptides
Sammanfattning : The global increasing problem of antibiotic resistance necessarily drives the pursuit and discovery of new antimicrobial agents. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) initially seemed like promising new drug candidates. Already members of the innate immune system, it was assumed that they would be bioactive and non-toxic. LÄS MER
17. Design of recombinant antibody microarrays for global proteome analysis
Sammanfattning : Antibody-based microarrays are among the new, rapidly emerging technologies within the field of proteomics that has the potential to evolve into a key proteomic research tool, providing novel means to perform early diagnostics, identify biomarkers and gain insights into disease biology. The aim of this thesis, based on five original papers, was to develop antibody microarrays based on human recombinant scFv antibody fragments for large-scale comprehensive proteome analysis. LÄS MER
18. Multivariate spectroscopic methods for the analysis of solutions
Sammanfattning : In this thesis some multivariate spectroscopic methods for the analysis of solutions are proposed. Spectroscopy and multivariate data analysis form a powerful combination for obtaining both quantitative and qualitative information and it is shown how spectroscopic techniques in combination with chemometric data evaluation can be used to obtain rapid, simple and efficient analytical methods. 19. Serum proteins in type 1 diabetes
Sammanfattning : We have previously shown that there are patients with type 1 diabetes T1D whose sera interfere with cytoplasmic free Ca2+-concentration ([Ca2+]i), resulting in -cell apoptosis. In this study the frequency of sera, that induces this effect, was found to be around 35% in T1D patients, and 25% in first degree relatives (FDR) of T1D patients. LÄS MER
20. Molecular Tools for Nucleic Acid Analysis
Sammanfattning : Nucleic acid technology has assumed an essential role invarious areas ofin vitrodiagnostics ranging from infectious diseasediagnosis to human genetics. An important requirement of suchmolecular methods is that they achieve high sensitivity andspecificity with a fast turnaround time in a cost-effectivemanner. LÄS MER
