21. Neutral proteases of rodent mast cells
Sammanfattning : Mast cells are important effector cells in general as well as in allergic inflammation andin the defence against helminthic parasites and bacteria. Two major populations, withdifferences in tissue distribution, have been identified; connective tissue mast cells andmucosal mast cells. LÄS MER
22. On the Regulation of the Serine Protease t-PA and its Inhibitor PAI-1 in the Brain
Sammanfattning : The serine protease tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA) is the main fibrinolytic enzyme in the vascular system, and thus plays a critical role in the dissolution of thrombi. In recent years, researchers have focused on its role within the brain, where t-PA has been shown to participate in a number of physiological and pathophysiological processes, including various aspects of synaptic plasticity and neurodegeneration. 23. Design and Synthesis of Inhibitors Targeting the Hepatitis C Virus NS3 Serine Protease and the Aspartic Protease BACE-1
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the synthesis of molecules designed to inhibit the hepatitis C virus (HCV) NS3 serine protease and the human aspartic protease BACE-1, and it also reports the structure-activity relationships between potential inhibitors and the targeted enzymes. In addition, consideration is given to the class of enzymes known as proteases, as well as the question of why such enzymes can be regarded as suitable targets for developing drugs to combat diseases in general. 24. Secretory Leukocyte Protease Inhibitor (SLPI) in the gastrointestinal tract in man
Sammanfattning : Secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor is a 11.7 kDa acid stable serine protease inhibitor. SLPI has been shown to be the dominant protease inhibitor in bronchial secretions and has been used in treatment of pulmonary emphysema. LÄS MER
25. Design and synthesis of inhibitors that target the serine protease thrombin, the malarial aspartyl proteases plasmepsin I and II, and the hepatitis C virus NS3 serine protease
Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses the design, synthesis, and structure-activity relationships of protease inhibitors that target the serine protease thrombin, the malarial aspartic proteases plasmepsin I and II, and the hepatitis C virus (HCV) NS3 serine protease. Furthermore, the backgrounds of each of the three types of diseases in question are discussed in detail, and consideration is given as to why it is assumed that inhibition of the mentioned proteases will help prevent or cure cardiovascular diseases, malaria, and hepatitis C.
