  1. 1. Sensorimotor transformations during grasping movements

    Författare :Daniel Säfström; Benoni B. Edin; Melvyn A. Goodale; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sensorimotor transformation; sensory integration; visuomotor map; human physiology; adaptation; grasping; sensory substitution; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : ‘Sensorimotor transformations’ are processes whereby sensory information is used to generate motor commands. One example is the ‘visuomotor map’ that transforms visual information about objects to motor commands that activates various muscles during grasping movements. LÄS MER

  2. 2. A Sound Approach Toward a Mobility Aid for Blind and Low-Vision Individuals

    Författare :Johan Isaksson-Daun; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Audomni; Blindness; Electronic travel aids; Desire of Use; DoU-MoB; DoUQ-MoB; Low vision; Mobility aids; Parrot-VR; Paitient-reported outcome measures; Sonification; Sensory substitution; Sensory supplementation; Virtual environments; Virtual reality; Visual impairment; Audomni; Blindhet; Electronic travel aids; Desire of Use; DoU-MoB; DoUQ-MoB; Kraftig synnedsättning; Förflyttningshjälpmedel; Orienteringshjälpmedel; Parrot-VR; Patient-reported outcome measures; Sonification; Sensory substitution; Sensory supplementation; Virtual environments; Virtual reality; Synnedsättning;

    Sammanfattning : Reduced independent mobility of blind and low-vision individuals (BLVIs) cause considerable societal cost, burden on relatives, and reduced quality of life for the individuals, including increased anxiety, depression symptoms, need of assistance, risk of falls, and mortality. Despite the numerous electronic travel aids proposed since at least the 1940’s, along with ever-advancing technology, the mobility issues persist. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On sensory feedback in hand prostheses

    Författare :Christian Antfolk; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Prosthetic hands; sensory feedback.;

    Sammanfattning : Amputation of the hand implies the loss of the ability to grasp and the ability to "feel". The grasping function can be primitively restored using an active prosthesis. Multiarticulating electrically powered hands have recently made their way to the market and these hands provide enhanced grasping and gripping capabilities. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Enhancing Composite Cassava Bread Quality - Effect of cassava pre-treatment and baking improvers

    Författare :Maria Eduardo; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; baking improvers; bread quality; cassava flour; pre-treatment; composite bread; sensory evaluation;

    Sammanfattning : Due to unfavourable climatic conditions, the production of wheat in Mozambique is not sufficient to satisfy national food industrial needs and substantial quantities must be imported at high cost. Bread is currently produced basically using wheat flour. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The sensational hand. Clinical assessment after nerve repair

    Författare :Birgitta Rosén; Malmö Handkirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; substitution of senses; artificial sensibility; reliability; validity; diagnose-specific; documentation; assessment; longitudinal; functional outcome; hand; sensibility; ulnar nerve; nerve repair; median nerve; brain plasticity; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : Following the transection and repair of major nerve trunks in the forearm, the functional outcome is influenced by mechanisms in the peripheral, as well as in the central nervous system. In the present thesis the interest is focused on assessment of the outcome after nerve repair, central nervous factors influencing the outcome, and sense substitution to compensate for sensory loss.
