  1. 11. Neuropathic Pain; Quality of Life, Sensory Assessments and Pharmacological Treatments

    Författare :Ann Kvarnström; Torsten Gordh; Rolf Karlsten; Per Hansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anaesthesiology and intensive care; neuropathic pain; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthetics and intensive care; Anestesiologi och intensivvård;

    Sammanfattning : Neuropathic pain of central and peripheral origin presents a substantial clinical problem as it is often resistant to pharmacological treatment.The health related quality of life of 126 patients with peripheral neuropathic pain was studied, to provide a cross sectional description from this point of view.     Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Audomni; Blindness; Electronic travel aids; Desire of Use; DoU-MoB; DoUQ-MoB; Low vision; Mobility aids; Parrot-VR; Paitient-reported outcome measures; Sonification; Sensory substitution; Sensory supplementation; Virtual environments; Virtual reality; Visual impairment; Audomni; Blindhet; Electronic travel aids; Desire of Use; DoU-MoB; DoUQ-MoB; Kraftig synnedsättning; Förflyttningshjälpmedel; Orienteringshjälpmedel; Parrot-VR; Patient-reported outcome measures; Sonification; Sensory substitution; Sensory supplementation; Virtual environments; Virtual reality; Synnedsättning;

    Sammanfattning : Reduced independent mobility of blind and low-vision individuals (BLVIs) cause considerable societal cost, burden on relatives, and reduced quality of life for the individuals, including increased anxiety, depression symptoms, need of assistance, risk of falls, and mortality. Despite the numerous electronic travel aids proposed since at least the 1940’s, along with ever-advancing technology, the mobility issues persist. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Factors Controlling Meat Quality of Pork in Relation to Breed and RN Genotype

    Författare :Åsa Josell; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik; NIR; rigor development; tenderness; RN gene; Meat quality; pork;

    Sammanfattning : The Hampshire breed was introduced as the terminal sire in Swedish slaughter pigs in the 1970s, mainly to reduce stress susceptibility and associated problems of meat quality, such as the meat being pale, soft and exudative (PSE). Since then, however, the RN – allele, a mutation which is only found in pure-bred Hampshire and in crosses with it, has been discovered. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Touching on elements for a non-invasive sensory feedback system for use in a prosthetic hand

    Författare :Pamela Svensson; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sensory feedback; amputation; referred sensation; non-invasive feedback; upper limb prosthetics; body ownership;

    Sammanfattning : Hand amputation results in the loss of motor and sensory functions, impacting activities of daily life and quality of life. Commercially available prosthetic hands restore the motor function but lack sensory feedback, which is crucial to receive information about the prosthesis state in real-time when interacting with the external environment. 5. 15. Hand-arm vibration syndrome; Consequences for hand function and quality of life

    Författare :Ragnhild Cederlund; Hållbar vardag och hälsa i ett livsperspektiv; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ortopedi; traumatologi; traumatology; Kirurgi; Surgery; orthopaedics; questionnaires; tests; assessments; outcomes; ill-health; well-being; activities of daily living ADL ; quality of life; hand function; hand symptoms; Vibration exposure; Hand-arm vibration syndrome HAVS ;

    Sammanfattning : Workers exposed to hand-held vibrating machines may risk developing a hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS), a condition which can cause chronic impairment and disability. The aims of this thesis were 1) to obtain deeper insight and further knowledge of HAVS and the consequences for hand function, and aspects of quality of life (QoL); 2) to investigate the usefulness of clinical assessments in diagnosing HAVS; 3) to evaluate a treatment method for patients with severe cold intolerance.
