  1. 1. Economic evaluation, value of life, stated preference methodology and determinants of risks

    Författare :Björn Sund; Lars Hultkrantz; Ulf Persson; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Cost-benefit analysis; value of a statistical life; contingent valuation; cardiac arrest; defibrillation; calibration; sensitivity to scope; risk communication; response times; incident experience; risk perception.; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; Economics; Nationalekonomi; Economics; Nationalekonomi;

    Sammanfattning : The first paper examines the value of a statistical life (VSL) for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) victims. We found VSL values to be higher for OHCA victims than for people who die in road traffic accidents and a lower-bound estimate of VSL for OHCA would be in the range of 20 to 30 million Swedish crowns (SEK). 2. 2. Kinetic Models in Life Science — Contributions to Methods and Applications

    Författare :Joachim Almquist; Stiftelsen Fraunhofer-Chalmers Centrum för Industrimatematik (FCC); []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NLME modeling; kinetic models; FOCE; Mig1; cell-to-cell variability; pharmacokinetics; parameter estimation; ticagrelor; atrial fibrillation; Kv1.5;

    Sammanfattning : Kinetic models in life science combine mathematics and biology to answer questions from areas such as cell biology, physiology, biotechnology, and drug development. The idea of kinetic models is to represent a biological system by a number of biochemical reactions together with mathematical expressions for the reaction kinetics, i.e. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Approaches to differential gene expression analysis in atherosclerosis

    Författare :Tove Andersson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :representational difference analysis; gene expression profiling; microarray analysis; atherosclerosis; foam cell formation;

    Sammanfattning : Today’s rapid development of powerful tools for geneexpression analysis provides unprecedented resources forelucidating complex molecular events.The objective of this workhas been to apply, combine andevaluate tools for analysis of differential gene expressionusing atherosclerosis as a model system. 4. 4. On the Metric-based Approach to Supervised Concept Learning

    Författare :Niklas Lavesson; Sweden Karlskrona Blekinge Institute of Technology School of Engineering Department of Systems and Software Engineering; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; classifier evaluation; supervised learning; metric; criteria;

    Sammanfattning : A classifier is a piece of software that is able to categorize objects for which the class is unknown. The task of automatically generating classifiers by generalizing from examples is an important problem in many practical applications. This problem is often referred to as supervised concept learning, and has been shown to be relevant in e.g. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Quantitative Bioanalysis : Liquid separations coupled to targeted mass spectrometric measurements of bioactive compounds

    Författare :Björn Arvidsson; Jonas Bergquist; Magnus Wetterhall; Gérard Hopfgartner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical chemistry; Method development; Enhanced microdialysis; Column switching; Liquid chromatography; Capillary electrophoresis; Electrospray ionization; Mass spectrometry; Triple quadrupole; Time-of-flight; Quantitation; Validation; Analytisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Performing quantitative analysis of targeted bioactive compounds in biological samples, such as blood plasma, cerebrospinal fluid or extracts from pig liver, put high demands on the ruggedness of the method acquiring the results. In addition to the complexity of the sample matrix, the bioactive compounds targeted for analysis usually have low levels of natural abundance, further increasing the demand on the analytical method sensitivity.
