11. NADH:quinone oxidoreductase: the black box of the respiratory chain
Sammanfattning : Complex I or NADH:quinone oxidoreductase the largest, most complex and least understood of the five membrane-bound enzyme complexes constituting the mitochondrial respiratory chain. The enzyme is present in all types of organisms, from bacteria to mammals. LÄS MER
12. Heat and water flows in freezing and thawing soils : numerical modelling, laboratory and field observations
Sammanfattning : A laboratory study of infiltration rates into frozen and unfrozen fine sand, including temperature effects of both soil and infiltration water, is reported. The average infiltration rate varied from about 10.6 mm/min for unfrozen conditions, to about 1-2 mm/min for frozen conditions. LÄS MER
13. Fabrication and Characterization of Superconductive Coplanar Waveguide Resonators : Fabrication and Characterization of Superconductive Coplanar Waveguide Resonators
Sammanfattning : The objective of this thesis is to evaluate a generic process for fabrication and characterization of the Superconductive coplanar waveguide (CPW) resonators. Superconductive CPW resonators with various lengths and shapes are designed to investigate their electrical and magnetic properties as well as resonance properties and sensitivities. LÄS MER
14. Diagnostic methods for bacterial etiology in adult community-acquired pneumonia
Sammanfattning : The etiologic agent is often unidentified in patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). Development of new diagnostic methods has been encouraged. We aimed to develop a multiplex PCR (mPCR) assay for common bacterial pathogens and evaluate the diagnostic usefulness of this assay and of respiratory culture in CAP. LÄS MER
15. A microarray analysis of the host response to infection with Francisella tularensis
Sammanfattning : Francisella tularensis is a gram-negative bacterium that is the cause of the serious and sometimes fatal disease, tularemia, in a wide range of animal species and in humans. The response of cells of the mouse macrophage cell line J774 to infection with Francisella tularensis LVS was analyzed by means of a DNA microarray. LÄS MER
