11. Integration of graphene into MEMS and NEMS for sensing applications
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a novel approach to integrate chemical vapor deposition (CVD) graphene into silicon micro- and nanoelectromechanical systems (MEMS/NEMS) to fabricate different graphene based MEMS/NEMS structures and explore mechanical properties of graphene as well as their applications such as acceleration sensing, humidity sensing and CO2 sensing. The thesis also presents a novel method of characterization of CVD graphene grain boundary based defects. LÄS MER
12. Kinetic Measurements Using Nanoplasmonic Sensing
Sammanfattning : In this thesis the nanoplasmonic sensing technique was used to study kinetics of (i) the oxidation of Al nanoparticles in air and water and (ii) the solid-liquid phase transition in Sn nanoparticles. The nanoplasmonic sensing technique detects changes of the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) in metal nanoparticles. LÄS MER
13. Multispectral Remote Sensing and Deep Learning for Wildfire Detection
Sammanfattning : Remote sensing data has great potential for wildfire detection and monitoring with enhanced spatial resolution and temporal coverage. Earth Observation satellites have been employed to systematically monitor fire activity over large regions in two ways: (i) to detect the location of actively burning spots (during the fire event), and (ii) to map the spatial extent of the burned scars (during or after the event). 14. Data assimilation of forest variables predicted from remote sensing data
Sammanfattning : Forest information for management planning is today gathered through a combination of field inventories and remote sensing, but the available flow of remote sensing data over time is not yet utilized for continuously improving predictions of forest variables. In the thesis, the utility of data assimilation, in particular the Extended Kalman filter, for forest variable prediction is investigated. LÄS MER
15. A Database of Microwave Single Scattering Properties of Ice Hydrometeors
Sammanfattning : Microwave remote sensing by satellites is important for global observations of ice hydrometeors. Interpretation of the measurements requires sufficiently accurate knowledge of hydrometeors’ interaction with photons, i.e. article scattering and absorption. LÄS MER
