1. Structure and organization of genes for the predominant seminal plasma proteins semenogelin I, semenogelin II and beta-microseminoprotein
Sammanfattning : In man, the predominant proteins in the seminal plasma include semenogelin I, semenogelin II and b-microseminoprotein (MSP). Semenogelin I and II are both synthesized in the seminal vesicles and are the backbone of the gel formed upon semen coagulation. MSP is synthesized in the prostate, but its role has not yet been defined. LÄS MER
2. Structure, Evolution, and Expression of Proteins in the Male Reproductive Tract. Studies on Semenogelins, Beta-Microseminoprotein, and PC3-Secreted Microprotein
Sammanfattning : Human semen has several important constituents, including the prostate secreted proteins beta-microseminoprotein (MSP), prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and prostatic acid phosphatase (PAP), and the seminal-vesicle-derived coagulum proteins semenogelin I (SEMG1) and semenogelin II (SEMG2). The research underlying this thesis explored the evolution, expression and structure of seminal plasma proteins to provide further knowledge in the area of reproduction, particularly regarding MSP and the semenogelins. 3. Human Glandular Kallikrein 2
Sammanfattning : Human glandular kallikrein 2 (hK2) is a serine protease, which is predominantly expressed by the prostate gland and found in seminal plasma at mean levels of 6 mg/ml. It has 79% amino acid sequence identity with prostate-specific antigen (PSA or hK3). LÄS MER
4. Antimicrobial activity of human seminal plasma and seminal plasma proteins
Sammanfattning : Seminal plasma is semen without the spermatozoa. Human seminal plasma is a complex mixture of secretions from the sex accessory glands, mainly the seminal vesicles and the prostate. Seminal plasma has high protein content and it also contains ions, sugars and low molecular weight components. LÄS MER
5. Biochemical Studies of Semenogelins with Emphasis on Zinc-Binding Properties
Sammanfattning : Semenogelins I and II (SgI and SgII) are homologous and rapidly evolving proteins that have a repetitive primary structure and are synthesized mainly in the seminal vesicles. Upon ejaculation, a gelatinous coagulum is formed when the semenogelin-rich secretion from the seminal vesicles is mixed with the prostate secretion, which contains high concentrations of zinc(II) and proteases.
