1. Suicide in late life
Sammanfattning : Background: Elderly persons have the highest suicide rates in most industrialized countries. A number of antecedents to suicide late in life have been identified, but the risk associated with these factors is unclear because controlled studies are lacking. LÄS MER
2. Interactions of methane and carbon monoxide with platinum - Supported catalysts and chemical sensors
Sammanfattning : This thesis aims at increasing the understanding of the interactions of methane and carbon monoxide with platinum in connection to catalysis and sensor technology for emission control. Specifically, the low-temperature oxidation of methane and carbon monoxide over supported platinum catalysts and the sensor response mechanism towards CO of platinum-based chemical field effect sensors were studied. 3. Transient Phenomena in CO and Hydrocarbon Oxidation over Supported Platinum Catalysts
Sammanfattning : The aim with this thesis work was to better understand transient phenomena involved in the low-temperature oxidation of CO and hydrocarbons by oxygen over typical oxidation catalysts. Supported platinum catalysts were prepared and carefully studied under transient conditions by means of flow-reactor experiments, different in situ spectroscopic (FTIR and XANES) methods in combination with mass spectrometry and mean-field kinetics simulations. 4. Catalytic Emission Abatement and Gas Separation
Sammanfattning : Air pollution is still today a major health problem. Emissions from mobile and stationary sources are regulated, but economical considerations limit the implementation of the most efficient abatement systems. To improve urban air quality, there is therefore a need to develop simple, durable and cost efficient emission control methods. LÄS MER
5. Lean NOx reduction over silver-alumina catalysts - Aspects on synthesis, structure and activity
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to increase the understanding of how to design highly active silver-alumina catalysts for selective catalytic reduction of NOx with hydrocarbons (HC-SCR) in oxygen excess at low temperatures (150-250 °C). Silver-alumina catalysts have been prepared using different methods, including a new unique preparation method developed during the thesis project. LÄS MER
