1. Nonlinear Propagation of Optical Pulses and Beams
Sammanfattning : The propagation of optical beams and pulses under the influence of nonlinear effects is characterized by a rich variety of phenomena and many potentially important applications. We analyse two main topics in this context: nonlinear beam propagation, and nonlinear pulse propagation in optical fibers. LÄS MER
2. Temporal Aspects of High-Intensity Laser-Matter Interactions
Sammanfattning : The availability of short-pulse, high-intensity lasers has opened doors to new areas in atomic and plasma physics. The short pulses (a few femtoseconds), that are available today, enable unprecedented temporal measurements, while the high peak power accessible (several terawatts) allows physicists to study the interaction between light and relativistic plasmas. 3. Laser-Matter Interactions at Extreme Irradiance: X-ray Generation and Relativistic Channelling
Sammanfattning : This thesis summarizes experimental work in which the powerful Ti:sapphire lasers at the High Power Laser Facility at the Lund Laser Centre have been employed to investigate laser-produced X-rays and relativistic channelling. These lasers produce short pulses, of the order of 50 fs, with energies ranging from 1 mJ to 1 J. LÄS MER
4. Nonlinear localization in discrete and continuum systems : applications for optical waveguide arrays
Sammanfattning : An introcludion to the formation of coherent structures in spatially discrete and continuous systems is given. Of special interest is the phenomenon of nonlinear localization, where the self-focusing of an excitation is balanced by a dispersive process. LÄS MER
5. Two-Photon Absorption and Photorefraction in Semiconductors and Ferroelectrics
Sammanfattning : Two-photon absorption spectra of Al0.4Ga0.6As/GaAs quantum wells in static electric fields are investigated experimentally. A drastic field-induced increase in the absorption peaks at energies close to half the bandgap energy is reported for the first time. LÄS MER
