1. Endogenous Retroviral RNA Expression in Humans
Sammanfattning : Human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs) constitute about 8% of the human genome. There are around 4000 pol-containing retroviral integrations in the human genome, which makes it impractical to measure each of them separately. LÄS MER
2. Expression and Regulation of P2 Receptors in Human Circulation
Sammanfattning : P2 receptors mediate the actions of the extracellular nucleotides ATP, ADP, UTP and UDP regulating several physiological responses including cardiac function, vascular tone, smooth muscle cell (SMC) proliferation, platelet aggregation, and the release of endothelial factors. The aim of the present study was to investigate the mRNA and protein expression of P2 receptors in human SMCs, endothelial cells (ECs), erythrocytes and platelets, the regulation of P2 receptors under shear stress in human vessels, the changes of platelet P2 receptors in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and the regulation of plasma ATP levels by P2 receptor on erythrocytes. 3. Detection and significance of drug-resistant HIV-1 minor populations
Sammanfattning : The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is the cause of the HIV/AIDS pandemic affecting millions of people around the world. Treatment with antiretroviral drugs, if used properly, leads to a dramatic decrease in virus production in the patient and prevents the onset of AIDS. LÄS MER
4. Antibiotic Resistance in Wastewater : Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)and antibiotic resistance genes
Sammanfattning : A large part of the antibiotics consumed ends up in wastewater, and in the wastewater the antibiotics may exert selective pressure for or maintain resistance among microorganisms. Antibiotic resistant bacteria and genes encoding antibiotic resistance are commonly detected in wastewater, often at higher rates and concentrations compared to surface water. LÄS MER
5. Molecular epidemiology of acute respiratory virus infections
Sammanfattning : Acute respiratory virus infections are very common but can also cause severe disease. In my thesis, I have analysed the molecular epidemiology of acute respiratory virus infections caused by enterovirus D68 and coronaviruses. In Paper I, we used real-time PCR and Sanger sequencing to analyse the outbreak of enterovirus D68 in Stockholm in 2016. LÄS MER
