1. Statistical Seismology Studies in Central America : b-value, seismic hazard and seismic quiescence
Sammanfattning : The present thesis collects results of research applying theory and methods of statistical seismology to the seismicity of Central America, a region with a complex tectonic setting controlled by the interaction of four major plates, namely the Caribbean, Cocos, Nazca and North American plates.Three different earthquake catalogues were used for studies focused on stress in a tectonic volume, seismic hazard maps and seismicity patterns (precursors), covering the region 94ºW to 81ºW and 5ºN to 20ºN. 2. Earthquake Sources, the Stress Field and Seismic Hazard : A Study in Eritrea and its Surrounding
Sammanfattning : Presented in this thesis are some basic concepts and applications of seismic hazard analysis and the elements that influence the amplitude and geometric attenuation of earthquake ground motion. This thesis centers on the identification of the styles of failure, focal mechanisms, and the state of regional stress in the study area. LÄS MER
3. Application of DOAS for Studies of Evolving Volcanic Activity in Central America
Sammanfattning : Volcanic gas emissions play a critical role in understanding the physical processes that drive eruptive activity. Combining gas measurements with other geophysical parameters provides a more accurate description of the changes that occur beneath a volcano. LÄS MER
4. Location and Relocation of Seismic Sources
Sammanfattning : This dissertation is a comprehensive summary of four papers on the development and application of new strategies for locating tremor and relocating events in earthquake catalogs. In the first paper, two new strategies for relocating events in a catalog are introduced. LÄS MER
5. Seismic high-frequency content loads on structures and components within nuclear facilities
Sammanfattning : Sweden is generally considered to be a low seismicity area, but for structures within nuclear power facilities, the safety level demand with respect to seismic events are high and thus, these structures are required to be earthquake-resistant. The seismic hazard is here primarily considered to be associated with near-field earthquakes. LÄS MER
