  1. 1. Insulin-like Growth Factor-I (IGF-I) and Interleukin-6 (IL-6) regulate body fat

    Författare :Kristina Wallenius; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Obesity; insulin-like growth factor I IGF-I ; interleukin-6 IL-6 ; growth hormone GH ; GH releasing factor GHRF ; GH secretagogue GHS ; receptor; leptin; insulin; glucose; intracerebroventricular ICV ; dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry DXA ; indirect calorimetry.;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate the role of insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) in the regulation of metabolism and body fat mass. Circulating IGF-I is mainly liver derived, while a large part of circulating IL-6 is produced by adipose tissue. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Pancreatic Endocrine Tumors and GIST - Clinical Markers, Epidemiology and Treatment

    Författare :Sara Ekeblad; Britt Skogseid; Peter Stålberg; Barbro Eriksson; Rajesh Thakker; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medicine; Pancreatic endocrine tumor; Gastrointestinal stromal tumor; Neuroendocrine; Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1; Prognostic factors; Temozolomide; TNM staging; O6-methylguanine DNA methyltransferase; Growth hormone secretagogue receptor; Ghrelin; Medicin;

    Sammanfattning : Pancreatic endocrine tumors and gastrointestinal stromal tumors are rare. Evidence regarding prognostic factors, and in the former also treatment, is scarce. We evaluated the survival and prognostic factors in a consecutive series of 324 patients with pancreatic endocrine tumors treated at a single institution. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Metabolic roles of adenosine : studies using genetically modified mice and transfected cells

    Författare :Stina Johansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Adenosine; A1 receptor; adipocyte; pancreas; skeletal muscle; GHSR1a; caffeine; metabolism and knock out mouse;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to further investigate the metabolic roles of adenosine. The endogenous nucleoside adenosine acts by binding to the four adenosine receptors, A1R, A2AR, A2BR and A3R. The A1R is the adenosine receptor that has been proposed to be the one most involved in metabolism. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Mediator synergism in mast celldependent inflammation : role of histamine for leukocyte recruitment

    Författare :Henrik Thorlacius; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Chemoattractants; dexamethasone; histamine; inflammation; intravital microscopy; mast cells; leukocyte adhesion; leukocyte rolling; microcirculation; mast cells; nitric oxide; leukotrienes; P-selectin.;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the present thesis was to study functional interactions between histamine and chemotactic mediators, and the role of histamine for leukocyte recruitment in mast cell-dependent inflammation. Leukocyte rolling, adhesion and emigration. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Secretory and anti-inflammatory actions of some gastro-intestinal hormones in salivary glands

    Författare :Hülya Çevik Aras; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :salivary glands; protein secretion; synthesis; inflammation; β-defensins; myeloperoxidase; cholecystokinin; gastrin; melatonin; nitric oxide; nerve stimulation;

    Sammanfattning : Textbooks generally state that the secretory activity of salivary glands is solely regulated by nerves. This view is challenged in the present Thesis, using the parotid gland of the anaesthetized rat as experimental in vivo model. LÄS MER
