  1. 1. Heart failure : biomarker effect and influence on quality of life

    Författare :Patric Karlström; Urban Alehagen; Mikael Dellborg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Heart failure; Biomarker; B-type natriuretic peptide; Heart failure treatment; B-type Natriuretic Peptide guided heart failure treatment; Responders; Health-related quality of life; Heart failure duration; Outcomes;

    Sammanfattning : Background and aims: Heart failure (HF) is a life threatening condition and optimal handling is necessary to reduce risk of therapy failure. The aims of this thesis were: (Paper I) to examine whether BNP (B-type natriuretic peptide)-guided HF treatment improves morbidity and mortality when compared with HF therapy implemented by a treating physician at sites experienced in managing patients with HF according to guidelines; (Paper II) to investigate how to define a responder regarding optimal cut-off level of BNP to predict death, need for hospitalisation, and worsening HF and to determine the optimal time to apply the chosen cut-off value; (Paper III) to evaluate how Health-Related Quality of Life (HR-QoL) is influenced by natriuretic peptide guiding and to study how HR-QoL is affected in responders compared to non-responders; (Paper IV) to evaluate the impact of patient age on clinical outcomes, and to evaluate the impact of duration of the HF disease on outcomes and the impact of age and HF duration on BNP concentration. 2. 2. Living with heart failure : effects of an educational programme on patients and family members

    Författare :Caroline Löfvenmark; Anne-Cathrine Mattiasson; Magnus Edner; Ewa Billing; Inger Ekman; Sophiahemmet Högskola; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chronic heart failure; Social support; Educational programme; Family members; chronic heart failure;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic heart failure (CHF) is a syndrome with various underlying causes and when an individual is diagnosed with CHF it affects daily life of both him/her and family members. An educational programme may have the capability to increase the knowledge and understanding of family members and improve their possibility to support the patient with CHF. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Novel Biomarkes in Acute Respiratory Failure and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

    Författare :Brynja Jónsdóttir; Kardiovaskulär forskning - hypertoni; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; Dyspnea; Respiratory failure; Biomarkers; GDF-15; ST2; IL-8; noninvasive ventilation; Acute Respiratory Failure; Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; Dyspnea; Biomarkers; ST2; IL-8; GDF-15; Prognosis and survival; Hypercapnia;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract Background: Dyspnea is a common manifestation of a range of conditions and diseases, sometimes with multiple contributing factors. A subgroup of these patients present with acute hypecapnic respiratory failure (AHRF) and are treated with non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV). LÄS MER

  4. 4. On failure of oral implants

    Författare :Bruno Chrcanovic; Malmö högskola; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Introduktion: Behandling med orala implantat är idag en effektiv och fungerande metod att ersätta bettfunktion vid partiell eller hel tandlöshet. Trots höga överlevnads- och lyckandesiffror finns ändå riskfaktorer som för vissa patienter kan resultera i implantatförlust. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Prevalence and treatment of patients with heart failure with special emphasis on diuretics

    Författare :Pär Parén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; heart failure; epidemiology; pharmaco-epidemiology; diuretics; mortality;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Heart failure (HF) is a major health problem worldwide with an estimated prevalence of about 1-2% in the Western world. The temporal trend for prevalence of HF has never been investigated in a nationwide population. In patients with HF diuretic treatment is recommended for relief of congestive symptoms. LÄS MER
