16. Computational Studies of Transition Metal-Catalyzed Asymmetric Transfer Hydrogenation Reactions
Sammanfattning : This thesis is based on two studies dealing with the computational investigation of asymmetric transfer hydrogenation reactions, in which hydrogen is transferred from a donor molecule (e.g. alcohol) to a substrate (ketone), via mediation of a metal-ligand catalyst complex. LÄS MER
17. Biotransformations of Turpentine Constituents : Oxygenation and Esterification
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes methods to obtain valueaddedcompounds from TMP-turpentine obtained from the spruce, Piceaabies. The methodology focuses on biotransformations using twoapproaches: an oxygenation approach (i.e. oxygenation ofterpene hydrocarbons by cell cultures) and an esterificationapproach (i. LÄS MER
18. Transition Metal-Catalyzed Redox Reactions : A Journey from Homogeneous Ruthenium to Heterogeneous Palladium Catalysis
Sammanfattning : The first part of the thesis covers the development and utilization of electronically modified (pentaarylcyclopentadienyl)Ru-complexes in the racemization of secondary alcohols. This study revealed that the electronic properties of the substrate were the main factors dictating whether β-hydride elimination or hydride re-addition becomes the rate-determining step of the racemization process. 19. Enantioselective Synthesis of Sec-Alcohol Derivatives and Diols via Combined Ruthenium and Enzyme Catalysis
Sammanfattning : The first part of this thesis describes the synthesis of enantiopure secondary alcohol derivatives. These syntheses are carried out via the combination of an enzyme as a resolution catalyst and a ruthenium catalyst as a racemization catalyst, in what is called dynamic kinetic resolution (DKR). 20. Transition metal-catalyzed hydrogen transfer processes
Sammanfattning : The first part describes the synthesis of new analogues of Bäckvall’s catalyst with varying electronic properties and their application in the racemization of sec-alcohols. The racemization involves two key steps: (i) β-hydride elimination (dehydrogenation of the alcohol) and (ii) hydride re-addition to the intermediate ketone. LÄS MER
