1. Hydrological Seasonal Forecasting
Sammanfattning : In Sweden, almost half of the electricity produced comes from hydropower. However, the amount of water in the reservoir catchments is not evenly distributed throughout the year. During the colder months, precipitation usually falls as snow and accumulates into a snowpack. LÄS MER
2. The Arctic Atmosphere : Interactions between clouds, boundary-layer turbulence and large-scale circulation
Sammanfattning : Arctic climate is changing fast, but weather forecast and climate models have serious deficiencies in representing the Arctic atmosphere, because of the special conditions that occur in this region. The cold ice surface and the advection of warm air aloft from the south result in a semi-continuous presence of a temperature inversion, known as the “Arctic inversion”, which is governed by interacting large-scale and local processes, such as surface fluxes and cloud formation. 3. On seasonality and cointegration
Sammanfattning : This thesis, which consists of four essays, focus on seasonal and periodic cointegration models. These models are tools to describe changing seasonality.Essay 1 "Forecasting performance of seasonal cointegration models", with Johan Lyhagen. LÄS MER
4. Optimal weather routing using ensemble weather forecasts
Sammanfattning : Ships small and large all battle the elements when crossing the worlds oceans. As such, ships are designed to operate in situations with high speed winds and heavy waves. There are however limits to what any ship can handle safely and it is thus important to avoid the worst weather systems as much as possible. LÄS MER
5. Land surface heat exchange over snow and frozen soil
Sammanfattning : The energy exchange in the soil-snow-vegetation-atmospheresystem was studied to improve the quantitative knowledge of thegoverning processes. The lack of such knowledge contributes tothe uncertainty in the applicability of many existing modelsindependent of the temporal or spatial scale. LÄS MER
