1. Seasonal change in defensive coloration in a shieldbug
Sammanfattning : Protective coloration such as aposematism and crypsis occurs in many insects but only a few species alter their defensive strategy during the same instar. We hypothesize the adult shield bug Graphosoma lineatum with an alternating black and non-melanised longitudinal striation exhibit such a change in defensive coloration. LÄS MER
2. Generation of urban runoff : Seasonal and climate change perspective
Sammanfattning : Runoff generation in cold regions is characterized by snowmelt contributions to runoff during the periods of thawing and changing runoff patterns due to frozen ground. This thesis project aimed at addressing these challenges by advancing the procedures for winter urban runoff computations and the assessment of control measures during the winter/spring period, when the snowmelt and frozen soils dominantly impact runoff generation in the current and future climates. 3. Soil microbial responses to mild winters and seasonal change
Sammanfattning : The aim with this thesis work was to study microorganisms response to milder winters, different seasons, and altered temperature. Winter warming treatments were established in a semi-natural temperate grassland, simulating mild winters for two years. LÄS MER
4. Baltic shore-lands facing climate change
Sammanfattning : This thesis provides new insight concerning drivers behind differences in arthropod diversity and abundance in Baltic shore ecosystems and how the arthropod communities might be affected when the conditions in the Baltic Sea are altered due to climate change. The focus has been on climate related changes that are unique for coastal ecosystems, especially sea level rise and changes in the inflow of marine nutrients. LÄS MER
5. Seasonal turnover in groundwater
Sammanfattning : This Licentiate Thesis presents a new approach of understanding leakage in agricultural land. Former studies concentrate on long term measurement of different pollutants in nearby watercourses and streams. The new approach is so far only numerically performed, but will soon be complemented by laboratory tests and field measurements. LÄS MER
