  1. 16. Modelling calving and sliding of Svalbard outlet glaciers : Spatio-temporal changes and interactions

    Författare :Dorothée Vallot; Rickard Pettersson; Veijo Pohjola; Ken Mattsson; Tómas Jóhannesson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cryospheric science; glacier modelling; time-lapse imagery; undercutting; sliding inversion; discrete particle model; calving model; subglacial hydrology; sliding law; automatic detection method; calving events size and frequency; ocean interaction; melt water runoff; ice dynamics; ice flow model; Geovetenskap med inriktning mot naturgeografi; Earth Science with specialization in Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : Future sea level rise associated to global warming is one of the greatest societal and environmental challenges of tomorrow. A large part of the contribution comes from glaciers and ice sheets discharging ice and meltwater into the ocean and the recent worldwide increase is worrying. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Modelling ice surface elevation changes in Dronning Maud Land, East Antarctica : Bridging the gap between in-situ and numerical model reconstructions

    Författare :Martim Mas e Braga; Arjen P. Stroeven; Irina Rogozhina; Jonathan M. Harbor; Clas Hättestrand; Frank Pattyn; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ice sheet modelling; glaciology; paleoglaciology; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : Ice sheets are an active component of Earth's climate system. Their topography influences atmospheric circulation and changes in their volume alters freshwater fluxes to the oceans, affecting ocean water masses, atmospheric carbon uptake, and global sea level. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Tracking environmental changes of the Baltic Sea coastal zone since mid-Holocene

    Författare :Wenxin Ning; Centrum för miljö- och klimatvetenskap (CEC); []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I used two coastal sediment sequences from SE Sweden to study how Baltic Sea coastal environment has changed since the mid-Holocene. The results show the coastal environment has been influenced by multi-stressors, such as climate change, shoreline regression and anthropogenic activities. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Silurian Carbonate Platforms of Gotland, Sweden - Archives of Local, Regional and Global Environmental Changes

    Författare :Mårten Eriksson; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sedimentologi; Sedimentology; fysisk geografi; Geologi; physical geography; Geology; Gotland; Silurian; Facies; Carbonate platforms; Sequence stratigraphy; Stable isotopes; Palaeoclimate;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis treats the Silurian carbonate platforms of Gotland, Sweden, which formed close to the equator within the East Baltic Basin. Three different time intervals, all involving changes in facies composition and structure of the platforms, have been studied; Late Homerian, latest Homerian ? earliest Gorstian, and late Ludfordian, respectively. 5. 20. Benthic environmental responses to climatic changes during the late Quaternary: a micropalaeontological and geochemical approach

    Författare :Claire McKay; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; late Quaternary; rapid climate change; Benguela; Mauritania; productivity; upwelling; benthic foraminifera;

    Sammanfattning : There is a limited understanding of how the benthic environment within upwelling regions responded to past rapid climatic changes. Within this thesis, a multiproxy approach is applied to two marine sediment cores from two coastal upwelling sites in the low latitude subtropical Atlantic. LÄS MER
