1. Primary Marine Aerosol Production : An experimental study based on Arctic Ocean water and a sea water proxy
Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the interplay between the physical properties of ocean water and primary marine aerosol (PMA) emissions in the context of a rapidly changing Arctic climate. PMAs are an important part of the climate system due to their ability to interact with incoming solar radiation and to influence cloud properties. LÄS MER
2. The influence of multiscale hyporheic flow on solute transport : Implications for stream restoration enhancing nitrogen removal
Sammanfattning : Stream water that flows into and out of streambeds is called hyporheic exchange flow (HEF).It continuously interacts with groundwater and thereby affect the water quality of local streamreaches as well as downstream recipients by providing an environment where solutes andenergy can be retained and degraded. 3. Characterisation of Urban Rainfall in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Sammanfattning : Rainfall characteristics of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, are studied in space and time; on a large scale, 550 km2, and long term scale to find out the monsoon influence, and on urban basin scale, 23 km2, to determine dynamic properties of rainfalls and spatial correlations, and on a point scale to determine the probabilities of very high rain intensities. The importance of spatial and temporal variability of rainfall was investigated applying cross correlation on long term historical rainfalls from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. LÄS MER
4. Factors influencing emission fluxes and bacterial enrichment in sea spray aerosols : Insights from laboratory and field studies
Sammanfattning : Sea spray aerosol (SSA) is one of the major natural aerosol sources and is produced when wave breaking entrains air into ocean surface water, which subsequently breaks up into bubbles. These bubbles rise to the surface and can scavenge biogenic material. LÄS MER
5. The Baltic Sea marine system - human impact and natural variations
Sammanfattning : The environmental state of the Baltic Sea system is influenced by both natural and anthropogenic factors. Water exchange with the adjacent ocean and within the system depend on large-scale atmospheric circulation and properties of the straits separating the different sub-basins. LÄS MER
