1. Surviving under water : Physiological limitations and technical possibilities
Sammanfattning : The survival of humans in underwater environments necessitates a comprehensive understanding of both physiological factors and advanced technologies. Diving with self-contained underwater breathing apparatuses (SCUBA) remains one of the most common ways for human underwater activities. LÄS MER
2. Oxygen content in semi-closed rebreathing apparatuses for underwater use : Measurements and modeling
Sammanfattning : The present series of unmanned hyperbaric tests were conducted in order to investigate the oxygen fraction variability in semi-closed underwater rebreathing apparatuses. The tested rebreathers were RB80 (Halcyon dive systems, High springs, FL, USA), IS-Mix (Interspiro AB, Stockholm, Sweden), CRABE (Aqua Lung, Carros Cedex, France), and Viper+ (Cobham plc, Davenport, IA, USA). 3. The safety relevance of standardized tests for diving equipment
Sammanfattning : Vital components are more or less prone to fail in a diving apparatus. This thesis examines the performance of oxygen sensors, carbon dioxide scrubber monitoring and composite gas cylinders. LÄS MER
4. Underwater Worlds : An Ethnography of Waste, Pollution, and Marine Life
Sammanfattning : In this dissertation, I investigate relations between humans, waste, pollution, and marine life. I introduce the concept of Aquabiopolitics as a means to understand how humans govern life in water in order to enrich human life on land. LÄS MER
5. The environment of high-redshift AGN
Sammanfattning : In order to understand the formation and evolution of local massive galaxies and to reveal the processes that engineered the tight correlations found between their supermassive black hole (SMBH) mass and bulge mass or velocity dispersion, the study of powerful, high-redshift active galactic nuclei (AGN) and their environment is crucial. Observations of high-z quasars and radio galaxies suggest that these AGN live in overdense environment surrounding by star-forming Ly&alpha-emitters and submillimeter galaxies. LÄS MER
