16. Quantification of skeletal, muscular and kinematics parameters in scoliosis : methodological and clinical studies
Sammanfattning : This dissertation presents new methods derived for precise evaluation of a number of anatomical and functional variables of the complex thoracospinal deformity in scoliosis. By consensus the scoliotic angle at the frontal plane is measured on radiographs using the Cobb method. LÄS MER
17. Aspects on the influence of the thoracic wall on the pathogenesis of idiopathic scoliosis
Sammanfattning : Experimental and clinical studies were performed in order to study the possible influence of the thoracic wall on the pathomechanism of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, IS. Experimental longitudinal elongation of one rib resulted in a deviation of the vertebra in the frontal plane to the contralateral side of the elongated rib, an anterior displacement in the sagittal plane and a rotation towards the convexity of the curve, thus a deviation identical to the 3-D configuration of the spine seen in IS. 18. Radiation dose and image quality in diagnostic radiology : optimization of the dose - image quality relationship with clinical experience from scoliosis radiography, coronary intervention and a flat-panel digital detector
Detta kallas på engelska ALARA-principen (As Low As Reasonably Achievable). LÄS MER
19. Functional ability in non-ambulatory people with Duchenne muscular dystrophy or spinal muscular atrophy assessed with the EK scale
Sammanfattning : Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) are neuromuscular diseases characterised by profound global skeletal muscle weakness leading to severe physical disability. The EK scale, an instrument for assessment of functional ability in non-ambulatory people with DMD or SMA, was developed. LÄS MER
20. Aspects on bleeding and transfusion in elective orthopaedic surgery. Clinical and experimental studies
Sammanfattning : Background: Perioperative bleeding complications are associated with increased morbidity and mortality. One way to minimize perioperative bleeding and transfusion is to identify patients at risk of bleeding. Preoperative fibrinogen plasma concentration and factor XIII (FXIII) activity may be indicators of perioperative bleeding and transfusion. LÄS MER
