6. FEM and Scientific Visualisation as Tools in Furniture Design
Sammanfattning : In the design process, knowledge of structural mechanics is often reduced to its use in determining whether the object that has been designed is sufficiently strong. Strength testing indicates this directly on a yes or no basis, whereas computations are able to quantify the degree of strength. LÄS MER
7. Gröbner Basis Methods for Minimal Problems in Computer Vision
Sammanfattning : A method is presented for building solvers for classes of multivariate polynomial equations. The method is based on solving an analogous template problem over a finite field, and then using the elimination order established for this problem for the original class of problems. LÄS MER
8. Localised Radial Basis Function Methods for Partial Differential Equations
Sammanfattning : Radial basis function methods exhibit several very attractive properties such as a high order convergence of the approximated solution and flexibility to the domain geometry. However the method in its classical formulation becomes impractical for problems with relatively large numbers of degrees of freedom due to the ill-conditioning and dense structure of coefficient matrix. 9. Vetenskapen och miljöproblemen. En expertsociologisk studie : Science and the Environment: A Study of the Sociology of Expertise
Sammanfattning : The point of departure for this study is the understanding that environmental problems are defined by people within specific social contexts. As environ¬mental problems are of their nature research dependent, the scientific expertise exerts a great influence over how environmental problems are defined and envi¬ronmental protection is managed. 10. Exploring the Invisible : FINDING STRUCTURE IN SCIENTIFIC DATA
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I present contributions towards the aim of understanding flow-related scientific data sets by communicating relation, properties, and structure. The individual papers are contributions to three different areas. First, real-world visualization challenges with domain specific tasks. LÄS MER
