6. On the Properties of Some Strongly Correlated Systems - Analytical and Numerical Studies
Sammanfattning : This thesis is dedicated to analytical and numerical studiesof a few models of strongly correlated systems and thedevelopment of techniques for such studies. The common name"strongly correlated" refers to systems in which theinteractions (correlations) between the constituent particleslead to nontrivial properties, such as various types ofmagnetism, superconductivity, and exotic phases. 7. III–V Nanowire Surfaces
Sammanfattning : This dissertation deals with the geometric and electronic structure of surfaces on III–V semiconductor nanowires (NWs). NWs made of InAs, GaAs, and InP have been studied using scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/S), low energy electron microscopy (LEEM), photoemission electron microscopy (PEEM), and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). 8. Transmission Electron Microscopy of Semiconductor Nanowires
Sammanfattning : Semiconductor nanowires are studied by using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) based methods in this work. In the first section, the growth mechanism of gallium arsenide nanowires grown by chemical beam epitaxy is investigated. The nanowires are epitaxially grown from a gallium arsenide substrate by using gold seed particles as catalysts. LÄS MER
9. Design and Construction of Low-Temperature Scanning Tunnelling Microscope for Spectroscopy
Sammanfattning : This thesis discusses some of the fundamental requirements needed to be fulfilled when constructing a low temperature scanning tunnelling microscope (STM). Three different designs, two non-vacuum and one ultra-high vacuum (UHV), based on either inertial-mass or novel stepper motor principles are presented. LÄS MER
10. Studies of Novel Nanostructures by Cross- sectional Scanning Tunneling Microscopy
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents structural and morphological studies of semiconductor nanostructures, namely quantum dots, nanowires and a dilute ferromagnetic semiconductor. These nanostructures are investigated on the atomic scale using cross-sectional scanning tunneling microscopy (XSTM). LÄS MER
