  1. 1. Scan Statistics for Space-Time Cluster Detection

    Författare :Benjamin Allévius; Martin Sköld; Michael Höhle; Paula Moraga-Serrano; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Scan statistics are used by public health agencies to detect and localize disease outbreaks. This thesis provides an overview of scan statistics in the context of prospective disease surveillance and outbreak detection, presents a novel scan statistic to deal with the type of zero-abundant data that is often encountered in these settings, and—perhaps most importantly—implements this and other scan statistics in a freely available and open source R package. 2. 2. Topics in multifractal measures, nonparametrics and biostatistics

    Författare :Attila Frigyesi; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; confidence interval; mixed effects; Statistics; operations research; programming; actuarial mathematics; Statistik; operationsanalys; programmering; aktuariematematik; operational model of pharmacological agonism; concentration-response curves; dose-response curves; ventilation perfusion scintigraphy; V Q-scan; pulmonary embolism; automated method; box counting; correlation dimension; Hentschel-Procaccia dimension; Rényi dimension; generalized dimensions; fractal dimension estimation; dimension spectrum; multifractal measures; kernel density estimates; absolute continuity; singular distribution functions;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of four papers. The first two papers, which comprise the main part of the thesis, deal with an unexpected connection between kernel density estimators and dimension spectra for multifractal measures. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On Clustering of Random Points in the Plane and in Space

    Författare :Marianne Månsson; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :geometric probability; integral geometry; convex sets; random intersections; mixed volumes; scan statistics; Poisson approximation; Stein-Chen method; convergence of point processes; scan statistics;

    Sammanfattning : If n points are independently and uniformly distributed in a large rectangular parallelepiped, A in Rd, d =2,3, they may possibly aggregate in such a way that they are contained in some translate of a given convex set C in A. If the points are replaced by copies of C, these translated sets may have a non-empty intersection. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Extreme Value Analysis of Huge Datasets: Tail Estimation Methods in High-Throughput Screening and Bioinformatics

    Författare :Dmitrii Zholud; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Extreme Value Statistics; High-Throughput Screening; HTS; Bioinformatics; analysis of huge datasets; quality control; correction of theoretical p-values; comparison of pre-processing methods; SmartTail; estimation of False Discovery Rates; test power; distribution tail; high level excursions; quantile estimation; multiple testing; Student t−test; Welch statistic; small sample sizes; F−test; Wiener process; Gaussian random walk; Shepp statistic; limit theorems; exotic options.; estimation of False Discovery Rates;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents results in Extreme Value Theory with applications to High-Throughput Screening and Bioinformatics. The methods described here, however, are applicable to statistical analysis of huge datasets in general. The main results are covered in four papers. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Large and rare : An extreme values approach to estimating the distribution of large defects in high-performance steels

    Författare :Jens Ekengren; Jens Bergström; Christer Burman; Thomas Svensson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Non-metallic inclusions; Tool steel; Extreme value statistics; Distribution of defects; Generalized extreme values; Materialteknik; Materials Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : The presence of different types of defects is an important reality for manufacturers and users of engineering materials. Generally, the defects are either considered to be the unwanted products of impurities in the raw materials or to have been introduced during the manufacturing process. LÄS MER
