16. Prognostic factors in soft tissue sarcoma. Tissue microarray for immunostaining, the importance of whole-tumor sections and time-dependence
Sammanfattning : In adult soft tissue sarcoma (STS) of the extremities and trunk wall, improved prognostic factors are needed to identify patients at high-risk for metastasis. Various factors are included in the many prognostic systems currently in use and the prognostic value of immunohistochemical (IHC) expression of biological markers is unclear. LÄS MER
17. Detection of fusion genes and fusion proteins in sarcoma : methodological and clinical aspects
Sammanfattning : Ewing's sarcoma/PNET and synovial sarcoma, all regarded as high-grade tumours, have their peak incidence during the second decade of life, thus affecting children and adolescents. Both tumour types have specific chromosomal translocations, i.e. t(11;22) and t(X;18), respectively, resulting in fusion genes coding for chimeric proteins. LÄS MER
18. Identification and validation of therapeutic targets in sarcoma models
Sammanfattning : In spite of the low incidence of sarcomas, they are highly aggressive tumors, with high metastatic potential, and resistance to both chemotherapy and radiotherapy, leaving surgery as the only treatment option. There is evidently an urgent need in identifying molecular targets and oncogenic pathways in sarcomas that can be used for the development and evaluation of drugs directed against these tumors. 19. Studies of transforming growth factor alpha in normal and abnormal growth
Sammanfattning : Regulation of growth is of fundamental importance for development of the organism and to maintain health. The induction of cell proliferation and matrix production are influenced by several different signaling systems, most importantly by growth factors. LÄS MER
20. Comparative treatment planning in external radiotherapy of malignant tumours : Potential gains using protons
Sammanfattning : It is well known that protons have physical characteristics superior to conventional radiation qualities in external beam radiotherapy. The primary aim of this work is to determine if the physical advantages also may lead to clinical advantages. LÄS MER
