  1. 1. Interactions between metals and bacteria : Importance for metal speciation

    Författare :Lena Brynhildsen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN;

    Sammanfattning : The objective of this thesis is to contribute to the understanding of the interactions between metals and microorganisms with respect to* Toxicity of metals (Cd, Cu, Hg, Zn)* Mineralization of metal-organic complexes (citric acid, histidine)* Metal adsorption (Cs, Sr, Eu, Hg, Zn, As)Most of the studies were made on the gram-negative bacterium Klebsiella oxytoca, but the work also involved a Serratia as as well as mixed cultures of microorganisms from soil systems.Most previous studies, reported in the literature, on the toxic effects of metals on microorganisms have been performed at high nutrient levels, despite the fact that microorganisms in nature normally live under energy-limited conditions. 2. 2. Metal accumulation by microorganisms : Characteristics and implications for soil systems

    Författare :Maria Ledin; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the present study was to investigate the potential role of microbial accumulation in the mobility of metals in soil systems. As a first approach, the metal-accumulating properties of three bacterial species were studied to determine to what extent and under what conditions the accumulation occurred. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Structuring empirical knowledge on environmental issues : urban heavy metal metabolism

    Författare :Johan Hedbrant; Ulrik Lohm; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Föroreningsfrågor; metodik; tungmetaller; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN;

    Sammanfattning : During the last century, there has been a large import of heavy metals to urban areas. Only a small fraction, about 10%, has reached the biosphere, the rest is still residing in various goods such as cables, construction materials, technical equipment and batteries, which are still in use or abandoned in infrastructure, buildings, households, enterprises and vehicles. 4. 4. Making Metal Making : Circulation and Workshop Practices in the Swedish Metal Trades, 1730–1775

    Författare :Måns Jansson; Göran Rydén; Göran Ulväng; Karel Davids; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; metal trades; eighteenth century; knowledge; skills; circulation; strategies; tactics; cutlery; manufacturing; division of labour; Ekonomisk historia; Economic History;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation is concerned with the making of metal making. It explores how skills, knowledge, and artefacts were circulated and grounded within the Swedish metal trades during the period ca. 1730 to 1775. It also analyses how these processes were related to different ways of organising practices of work. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Industrial metabolism : The emerging landscape of heavy metal immission in Sweden

    Författare :Bo Bergbäck; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN;

    Sammanfattning : Since the turn of this century, technological development has drastically increased the industrial consumption of toxic metals. Once dispersed in the environment, the metals cannot be degraded but will be accumulated in soil or sediment sinks. Thus, environmental effects of heavy metal pollution tend to be permanent. LÄS MER
