6. Model Systems for Metal - DNA Interactions. With a Focus on Anticancer Active Platinum(II) Complexes
Sammanfattning : Reactions of trans-dicyanodichloroaurate(III) trans-dibromodicyanoaurate(III), trans-diamminedichlorogold(III), cis-diammine(aqua)chloroplatinum(II), cis-ammineaqua-(cyclohexylamine)chloroplatinum(II), chloro(terpyridine)platinum(II) and chloro-(diethylenetriaminepalldium(II) with dimethyl sulfide, thionucleosides, thionucleotides and thione- and guanine-containing 17-mer oligonucleotides have been investigated by use of conventional and high-pressure stopped-flow spectrophotometry and HPLC technique as a function of ionic strength, pH, temperature and pressure in aqueous solutions. The mechanism and rate of oxidation of dimethyl sulfide by gold(III) complexes depends on the concentration of free halide. LÄS MER
7. Anisotropic Protein Interactions in Salt Solutions and at Interfaces: Coarse Grained Modeling
Sammanfattning : Anisotropic protein interactions have a strong orientation dependence resulting from an uneven distribution of charged and hydrophobic residues on the protein surface. They play an important role in protein behaviors such as protein association, surface adsorption and phase separation. LÄS MER
8. Free oligosaccharides and glycosylation of bile salt-stimulated lipase in human milk
Sammanfattning : Bile salt-stimulated lipase (BSSL) is a glycosylated protein present in milk at a concentration of 100-200 mg/L. It is an enzyme important for fat digestion in the newborn infant. The protein backbone contains one possible site for N-glyeosylation and several sites for 0-glyeosylation. LÄS MER
9. Thermodynamics of protein-DNA interactions
Sammanfattning : This thesis treats the molecular recognition between DNA-binding proteins and DNA and the way these interactions are affected by the surrounding water solution and dissolved solutes. The work involves studies on the thermodynamics of sequence specific DNA-binding of the human glucocorticoid receptor DNA-binding domain and the nonsequence specific DNA- binding of Sso7d from the archaeon Sulfolobus solfataricus. 10. Electrostatic Interactions in Complex Liquids : A Thermodynamic Analysis Based on the Poisson-Boltzmann Equation and the Flexible Surface Model
Sammanfattning : The aim of this study was to analyse physico-chemical properties of some complex liquids using the Poisson-Boltzmann (PB) cell model; to extend the theory to cover bilayer systems with complex global geometry; finally to apply this new extended model to such bilayer systems. The PB cell model provides a practical tool to examine counterion association and phase behaviour for structures of simple geometries; cylindrical and spherical. LÄS MER
