    Sammanfattning : Mucins constitute the major protein component of the mucus layer, which covers the epithelial surfaces of the respiratory, the gastrointestinal and the genitourinary tracts. Mucins carry O-linked oligosaccharides which contribute to the molecule by 50-80 weight percent, and these can be highly diverse, with 50-150 different oligosaccharides found on a purified mucin population.     Sammanfattning : Den salivfilm som bildas genom selektiv proteinadsorption på ytor i munhålan har stor profylaktisk betydelse genom sin skyddande funktion och befrämjar därigenom oral hälsa. Några av de adsorberade komponenterna har smörjande funktion (t ex muciner, sura prolinrika proteiner (PRP) och statherin), som är viktig bl a för att förhindra slitage mellan tandytor vid tuggning och hos gnisslare.     Sammanfattning : A conditioning film, the pellicle, of which many salivary proteins areimportant constituents, covers the surfaces present in the mouth. The pellicleforms in a selective adsorption process, and it has protective and lubricatingfunctions as well as an influence on the adherence of oral microbes thatultimately leads to the development of dental plaque.
