  1. 26. SODIUM/IODIDE SYMPORTER-NIS Abundant and Important in Gastric Mucosa

    Författare :Malin Josefsson; Neurogastroenterologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ussing chamber; MNNG; gastric iodide secretion; ouabain; gastric cancer; sodium perchlorate; gastric NIS; bile duct cancer; Sodium iodide symporter;

    Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT Background: Iodine is essential for development and growth as a constituent in thyroid hormones. Biological mechanisms for iodide uptake and concentration are very important, espe-cially as iodine is a relatively scarce element. LÄS MER

  2. 27. The role of Ro52 autoantibodies in congenital heart block

    Författare :Stina Salomonsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Autoantibodies; Ro52; congenital heart block CHB ; Sjögren s syndrome SS ; autoimmunity; inflammation; autoantigen; germinal center GC ;

    Sammanfattning : The presence of B cells producing autoantibodies is a common feature of many autoimmune conditions. The pathogenic role of the autoantibodies is often unclear, but they often serve as diagnostic markers and may be used as prognostic tools in some diseases. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Cellular and molecular factors in the pathogenesis of systemic autoimmunity and comorbidities

    Författare :Margarita Ivanchenko; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Sjögren’s syndrome (SS) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are systemic rheumatic autoimmune diseases having a major impact on patient’s wellbeing. Besides fatigue, pain and direct damage to exocrine glands in SS, and various target organs, such as skin, joints, kidneys and brain in SLE, these diseases confer an increased risk of lymphoma development and can cause an autoimmune condition in the foetus of pregnant patients, termed neonatal lupus. 4. 29. Assessment of DNA damage, oxidative stress and inflammation in chronic kidney disease patients : and a clinical study of a dietary supplement

    Författare :Ylva Rodhe; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Decreased kidney function is associated with higher levels of oxidative stress, inflammation and malnutrition. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients have a higher risk to develop cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis and cancer compared to the general population. Cardiovascular disease is the major cause of death in CKD patients. LÄS MER

  5. 30. The effect of malnutrition on saliva composition and caries development

    Författare :Ingegerd Johansson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :starvation; protein-deficiency; antibacterial proteins; saliva; caries; infection;

    Sammanfattning : Starvation and protein deficiency increase susceptibility to infections in general and affect the function of various types of cells individually. Saliva contains substances which offer protection to the oral tissues. Its composition and secretion rate may be important in preventing the development of disease, e.g. LÄS MER
