16. Immunological factors in breast milk in relation to allergy in mother and child
Sammanfattning : Background: The allergy preventive effect of breast-feeding against the development of allergy is controversial and some of this controversy may be due to differences in the composition of breast milk between different mothers.Aim: To analyse IgA, cytokine and chemokines levels in human milk and relate the findings to matemal allergy and to development of atopic disease and IgA production in the infants, and furthermore, to assess the effects of breast milk on CBMC cytokine production. 17. Method development for the analysis of complex samples with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry
Sammanfattning : In this thesis the development of methods for handling the problems associated with analyzing trace elements in complex matrixes using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry is presented. Trace elements such as Cu, Fe, Se, and Zn, to name a few, do play important roles in different organisms. LÄS MER
18. Transcriptomic and taxonomic profiling of periodontitis by massively parallel sequencing
Sammanfattning : Periodontitis is a microbial-induced, chronic inflammatory disease that affects tissue and bone anchoring the teeth, and can ultimately lead to tooth loss. In addition, periodontitis may contribute to systemic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease (CVD), diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and inflammatory bowel diseases. LÄS MER
19. Advanced molecular tools for diagnostic analyses of RNA and antibodies in situ and in solution
Sammanfattning : Advanced molecular diagnostics uses in vitro biological assays to detect nucleic acids or proteins even in low concentrations across samples, allowing for the identification of biomarkers, monitoring the course of the disease over time, and selection of appropriate therapy. In this thesis, I focus on development and early applications of several molecular tools of expected value in research, and eventually also clinically. LÄS MER
20. Glycan dependent Helicobacter spp. and Streptococcus oralis binding to mucins in the gastric and oral mucosal niches
Sammanfattning : Helicobacter pylori infects the stomach of half of the world’s population, while Helicobacter suis colonizes pigs and is the most common non-H. pylori Helicobacter species that also infects human stomach. Infection with Helicobacter spp. is associated with chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, and gastric cancer. LÄS MER
