  1. 1. Navigating towards the Safe Operating Space: Systems thinking and the SDGs

    Författare :David Collste; Sarah E Cornell; Birgit Kopainsky; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; 2030 Agenda; visioning; scenarios; Sustainable Development Goals; SDGs; Three horizons; transformation; The World In 2050; Planetary Boundaries; Safe Operating Space; Plural economics; Doughnut Economics; Human Needs; Capability approach; Easterlin paradox; Sustainability; System Dynamics; Sustainability Science; vetenskap om hållbar utveckling;

    Sammanfattning : Can the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals be reached within the Planetary Boundaries? This licentiate thesis aims to explore this question by navigating towards the safe operating space, as defined by the planetary boundaries, through integrating issues, disciplines, scales, models and stakeholders. The thesis is a milestone within the European Union financed project “Adaptation to a New Economic Reality (AdaptEconII)”. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Seawater intrusion risks and controls for safe use of coastal groundwater under multiple change pressures

    Författare :Aikaterini Mazi; Georgia Destouni; Adrian Werner; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; seawater intrusion; coastal aquifer; tipping points; safe operating space; analytical solution; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : In the era of intense pressures on water resources, the loss of groundwater by increased seawater intrusion (SWI), driven by climate, sea level and landscape changes, may be critical for many people living in commonly populous coastal regions. Analytical solutions have been derived here for interface flow in coastal aquifers, which allow for simple quantification of SWI under extended conditions from previously available such solutions and are suitable for first-order regional vulnerability assessment and mapping of the implications of climate- and landscape-driven change scenarios and related comparisons across various coastal world regions. 3. 3. Entering the dynamic risk space : Assessing planetary boundary interactions through process-based quantifications

    Författare :Arne Tobian; Johan Rockström; Sarah Cornell; Ingo Fetzer; Dieter Gerten; Martin Volk; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Planetary boundaries; climate change; land-use change; Earth system interactions; ecosystem modeling; green water; vetenskap om hållbar utveckling; Sustainability Science;

    Sammanfattning : The planetary boundaries framework is an effort to define a safe operating space for humanity. Its rationale is that sustainable development needs to be achieved in ways that safeguard the stability of the Earth system on which human prosperity relies. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Fear of violence and gendered power relations : Responses to threat in public space in Sweden

    Författare :Linda Sandberg; Aina Tollefsen; Malin Rönnblom; Rachel Pain; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :The geography of fear; gender relations; fear of violence; whiteness; gender equality; masculinity; femininity; narrative analysis; Sweden; Social and Economic Geography; kulturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Several cases of single repeat offenders in urban space have raised public concern in Sweden during recent decades. Few studies have been conducted on consequences of the kind of ‘hostage situations’ that emerge when one individual offender causes fear and affects a larger group of people in a specific place. 5. 5. Pedestal structure and stability in JET-ILW and comparison with JET-C

    Författare :Estera Stefanikova; Lorenzo Frassinetti; Per Brunsell; Joelle Mailloux; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; JET; Thomson scattering; pedestal; pedestal position; pedestal stability; Europed modelling; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Controlled thermonuclear fusion offers a promising concept for safe and sustainable production of electrical energy. However, there are still many issues to be investigated on the way to a commercial fusion reactor. An important point for detailed studies is connected to wall materials surrounding hot thermonuclear plasma. LÄS MER
