1. Investigation of electrochemical properties and performance of stimulation/sensing electrodes for pacemaker applications
Sammanfattning : People suffering from certain types of arrhythmia may benefit from the implantation of a cardiac pacemaker. Pacemakers artificially stimulate the heart by applying short electrical pulses to the cardiac tissue to restore and maintain a steady heart rhythm. By adjusting the pulse delivery rate the heart is stimulated to beat at desired pace. LÄS MER

3. Dye-sensitized nanostructured metal oxide electrodes : Photoelectrochemical, quantum chemical and electron spectroscopic studies
Sammanfattning : Solar cells based on dye-Sensitized nanostructured electrodes are promising for solar energy conversion. High overall light-to-energy conversion efficiencies have been obtained for systems based on TiO2 (7%) and ZnO (2%). The photocurrent losses in these electrodes have been investigated by photoelectrochemical methods. LÄS MER
4. Modification of Oxide Surfaces with Functional Organic Molecules, Nanoparticles, and Hetero-Oxide Layers
Sammanfattning : The research work described in this thesis is concerned with the modification of oxide surfaces, as reflected by its title. The surfaces and their modification have been studied using a range of experimental surface characterization tools, in particular x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), fluorescence microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and scanning tunneling microscopy. 5. Sensory neuropeptides and nitric oxide in nasal vascular regulation
Sammanfattning : The role of sensory neuropeptides and nitric oxide in vascular regulation was investigated in the pig nasal mucosa in vivo using arterial blood flow measurements and acoustic rhinometry for analysis of capacitance function. Moreover, the effects of heavy physical exercise, a-adrenoceptor agonists, nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibition, L-arginine, nitric oxide (NO) gas, histamine and capsaicin on nasal cavity NO levels and nasal cavity volume, were investigated in healthy subjects.
