1. Ruthenium-Catalyzed Asymmetric Transfer Hydrogenation
Sammanfattning : This thesis covers the development of two new methods for the asymmetric reduction of ketones and ketone intermediates. The protocols developed are based on the use of a ruthenium pseudo-dipeptide catalyst that previously has been shown to be efficient and selective in the asymmetric reduction of carbonyl compounds. 2. Transport and Containment Chemistry of Ruthenium under Severe Accident Conditions in a Nuclear Power Plant
Sammanfattning : During a severe nuclear accident volatile elements and elements readily forming volatile compounds are the main concern regarding the release of radioactive material to the environment. As ruthenium is prone to form volatile oxides under severe nuclear accident conditions as well as having radiotoxic isotopes, it is one of the more important elements during such an accident. LÄS MER
3. Development of Ruthenium Catalysts for Water Oxidation
Sammanfattning : An increasing global energy demand requires alternative fuel sources. A promising method is artificial photosynthesis. Although, the artificial processes are different from the natural photosynthetic process, the basic principles are the same, i.e. LÄS MER
4. Transition metal-catalyzed reduction of carbonyl compounds : Fe, Ru and Rh complexes as powerful hydride mediators
Sammanfattning : A detailed mechanistic investigation of the previously reported ruthenium pseudo-dipeptide-catalyzed asymmetric transfer hydrogenation (ATH) of aromatic ketones was performed. It was found that the addition of alkali metals has a large influence on both the reaction rate and the selectivity, and that the rate of the reaction was substantially increased when THF was used as a co-solvent. 5. RuO4 interaction with surfaces in the containment of nuclear power plant
Sammanfattning : During a severe accident different fission products will be released from the nuclear fuel and some of them may eventually reach the containment building. Ruthenium is considered to be an important fission product due to the possible formation of volatile oxides. LÄS MER
