  1. 1. Landscape Dynamics : Spatial analyses of villages and farms on Gotland AD 200-1700

    Författare :Gustaf Svedjemo; Frands Herschend; Helene Martinsson-Wallin; Jan Henrik Fallgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Gotland; Archaeology; History; Historical maps; Roman Iron Age; Migration Period; Middle Ages; Village; Village formation; Farm; Settlement archaeology; Spatial analyses; GIS; Prediction modelling.; Gotland; Arkeologi; Historia; Historiska kartor; Romersk järnålder; Folkvandringstid; By; Bybildning; Gård; Bebyggelsearkeologi; rumsliga analyser; GIS; Geografiska informationssystem; prediktionsmodellering;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation deals with the long-term dynamics and fluctuations of settlements on Gotland for the period from AD 200 up until early modern times. The settlement structure on Gotland is most often described as very stable and consisting of solitary farms, established in the Iron Age. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Hydro-Climatic Variability and Change in Central America : Supporting Risk Reduction Through Improved Analyses and Data

    Författare :Beatriz Quesada-Montano; Sven Halldin; Hugo G. Hidalgo; Ida K. Westerberg; Fredrik Wetterhall; Denis Hughes; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Central America; climate variability; disaster risk reduction; droughts; drought indices; floods; hydrological model; process constraints; statistical downscaling; uncertainty; ungauged basins; water resources.; Hydrology; Hydrologi;

    Sammanfattning : Floods and droughts are frequent in Central America and cause large social, economic and environmental impacts. A crucial step in disaster risk reduction is to have a good understanding of the causing mechanisms of extreme events and their spatio-temporal characteristics. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Spatial variability linking carbon resource heterogeneity and microorganisms; causes and consequences

    Författare :Niklas Törneman; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Mikrobiologi; mycology; virology; bacteriology; Microbiology; Ekologi; Ecology; Geostatistics; Microbial activity; Soil organic carbon; Microbial diversity; Biodegradation; Bioremediation; PAH; Spatial patterns;

    Sammanfattning : Organic carbon and bacteria have a high variability at different scales in the soil, and organic carbon may be a limiting factor for growth of soil bacteria. Thus, it can be expected that these co-vary at different scales in the soil. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Towards spatial host-microbiome profiling

    Författare :Britta Lötstedt; Joakim Lundeberg; Petri Auvinen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 16S sequencing; RNA sequencing; spatially resolved transcriptomics; antibody-based measurements; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Sammanfattning : Sequencing technologies and applications have pushed the limits and enabled novel studies of biological mechanisms, evolutionary relationships and communication networks between cells. The technical developments leading to single cell RNA-sequencing have enabled detection of rare cell populations while spatial resolution added insights into larger biological environments, like tissues and organs. 5. 5. Recent changes in land use and productivity in agro-pastoral Inner Mongolia, China

    Författare :Sara Brogaard; LUCSUS; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; geomorphology; Physical geography; China; Inner Mongolia; remote sensing; LUE model; primary production; GPP; yield variability; land degradation; farmers’ perception; productivity; Land use; pedology; cartography; climatology; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; marklära; kartografi; klimatologi;

    Sammanfattning : This study challenges the prevailing assumption that the expansion of cultivated land areas and increasing number of livestock in the agro-pastoral regions of northern China have aggravated the process of land degradation since the start of the rural reforms in 1978. Land-use and productivity trends in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (IMAR), with special attention to the Keerqin steppe region, have been analysed. LÄS MER
