Sammanfattning : This study examines how the Royal Palace of Stockholm gradually, from 1880–2000, became established as a monument in art and cultural history, as well as a site of national heritage. Sammanfattning : The overarching aim of this thesis, situated within Museology and Heritage Studies, is to investigate the different modes and devices of transfer between sacredness and heritage. The research question, 'What happens in the transfer between heritage and sacredness?', is investigated as production of sacred heritage in early modern Europe and specifically Sweden, Rome, and Venice (Part I), and as uses of the sacred as heritage in different times and contexts (Part II). Sammanfattning : The thesis portrays the role of Hedwig Eleonora (1636-1715) dowager queen of Sweden, born princess of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf, as a patron and collector. Her role is analysed as to have played a great part in the Swedish cultural political visual production before and during the age of absolutism in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth-century.
