    Författare :Maria Ekelin; Institutionen för hälsovetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; routine ultrasound examination; pregnancy; parents; expectations; experiences; reactions; PEER-U questionnaire;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to describe parents’ expectations, experiences and reactions to a routine ultrasound examination during the second trimester of pregnancy and to develop, test and use a questionnaire. The aim was also to conceptualize the parents’ experiences and ways of handling the situation when the diagnosis was a non-viable fetus. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Ultrasound measurements of subclinical carotid atherosclerosis : methodological and clinical studies

    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; atherosclerosis; ultrasound; carotid artery; carotid intima media thickness; carotid plaque; reproducibility; intervention; echogenicity; cardiovascular disease; hjärt- och kärlforskning;

    Sammanfattning : Ultrasound measurements of subclinical carotid atherosclerosis have been evaluated as an additional parameter in risk evaluation of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). The overall aim of this thesis was to increase knowledge regarding ultrasound measurements of subclinical carotid atherosclerosis. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Pregnancy Ultrasound Detecting Soft Markers – the Challenge of Communicating Risk Figures

    Författare :Annika Åhman; Anna Sarkadi; Christine Rubertsson; Peter Lindgren; Marie Berg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pregnancy; Ultrasound; Soft markers; Prenatal; Screening; Fathers; Informed decision making; Decision aid.; Obstetrik och gynekologi; Obstetrics and Gynaecology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on expectant parents’ experiences and needs when soft makers are detected at mid-trimester ultrasound, resulting in an unexpected assessment of risk for fetal anomalies. The thesis also describes the prevalence of ultrasonographic fetal soft markers and the incidence of Down syndrome in a low-risk population of 10,535 pregnant women with a total of 10,710 fetuses, as well as the risk of invasive prenatal diagnostics in conjunction with the detection of soft markers. 4. 4. Ultrasound prediction of large fetuses. Epidemiological and clinical investigations

    Författare :Gun Lindell; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Two-dimensional ultrasound; three-dimensional ultrasound; fetus; intrauterine growth; maternal characteristic; large-for-gestational age; antenatal calculation; Bayesian theorem; fetal weight; estimation; post-term fetus; fetal macrosomia;

    Sammanfattning : The proportions of newborns with a birth weight (BW) >4,000 g and of macrosomic newborns (BW >4,500 g) have increased during the last two decades, parallel with an increasing maternal pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) and age at the time for pregnancy. Delivery of a large fetus, especially >4,500 g might cause perinatal complications for both the mother and her child. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Women's Experiences of Fetal Screening for Down's Syndrome by Means of an Early Ultrasound Examination

    Författare :Susanne Georgsson Öhman; Ulla Waldenström; Charlotta Grunewald; Berit Schei; Sophiahemmet Högskola; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fetal ultrasound screening; Nuchal translucency; Down s syndrome; Worry; Depressive symptoms; False positive results; Women s reactions; Risk information; Nursing; Omvårdnad; Fetal ultrasound screening; nuchal translucency; Down s syndrome; worry; depressive symptoms; false positive results; women s reactions; risk information;

    Sammanfattning : The general aim of this thesis was to explore women's reactions to and experiences of fetal screening for Down's syndrome PS) by means of an ultrasound examination, including measurement of fetal nuchal translucency (NT). The effect of this screening on maternal worry about the baby's health was investigated, as well as reactions to a false positive test and interpretation of information about riskAlso, an instrument measuring worry during pregnancy, the Cambridge Worry Scale, was translated into Swedish and tested on a sample of pregnant women.
