  1. 1. The Round Window Membrane - Gateway to the Cochlea : A Morphological and Electrophysiological study

    Författare :Leif Nordang; Sten Hellström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Otorhinolaryngology; round window membrane; pseudomonas exotoxin; auditory brainstem response; hearing loss; endolymphatic sac; inner ear immunology; glutamate; nitric oxide inhibitor; glucocorticoid.; Otorhinolaryngologi; Otorhinolaryngology; Otorhinolaryngologi; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; oto-rhino-laryngologi;

    Sammanfattning : Topical treatment of several inner ear diseases through the round window membrane (RWM) might be feasible in the near future. Bacteria toxins, ototoxic drugs and noise trauma seem to harm the inner ear by a common pathway which involves, excessive outflow of the afferent neurotransmitter glutamate and formation of nitric oxide (NO), which can severely damage cells/nerve endings and lead to cell death.     Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Round window membrane; sodium hyaluronate; chitosan; local cochlear drug delivery and gene delivery; Oto-rhino-laryngologi; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; Biology; Biologi; Round window membrane; sodium hyaluronate; chitosan; local cochlear drug delivery and gene delivery;

    Sammanfattning : Establishing efficient methods for local administration of drugs to the inner ear has great clinical relevance for the management of inner ear disorders. However, the administration route remains a critical issue. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The Human Cochlea and Cochlear Implantation : Morphological Characteristics and Clinical Correlations

    Författare :Nadine Schart-Morén; Helge Rask-Andersen; Elina Mäki-Torkko; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cochlear implantation; micro-CT; synchrotron; facial nerve stimulation; hearing preservation; round window;

    Sammanfattning : The most common sensory deficit in the world is sensorineural hearing loss. Cochlear implantation (CI) can majorly contribute to restore hearing, not only in patients with severe to profound hearing loss, but also in hearing-impaired patients with residual low-frequency hearing. 4. 4. Year-round production of forest seedlings under LED lamps : Biological and energetic implications of indoor cultivation

    Författare :Marco Hernandez Velasco; Uwe Zimmermann; Anders Mattsson; Frank Fiedler; Johanna Riikonen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Picea abies; Pinus sylvestris; year-round cultivation; forest seedlings; LED lamps; light quality; light quantity; daily light integral; adaptive lighting control; greenhouse integrated photovoltaics; agrivoltaics; seedling growth performance; short-day treatments; cold hardiness; light shock stress; Engineering Science; Teknisk fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Year-round cultivation of forest seedlings under light emitting diodes (LED) is a technology receiving increased attention from nurseries in the boreal forest regions. In these areas, the climate is characterized by strong seasonal fluctuations, resulting in short vegetation periods with narrow time windows for seedling transplanting and outdoor growth. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Topical anesthesia of the tympanic membrane : an experimental animal study

    Författare :Sten-Hermann Schmidt; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Topical anesthesia; middle ear; tympanic membrane; cochlea; collagen fibres; lidocaine; 96 % phenol; Bonain s liquid; auditory brainstem response; ototoxicity; cytocochleogram; scanning electron microscopy; rat; guinea pig;

    Sammanfattning : Myringotomy plays an important role in otological therapy. The procedure requires an efficient anesthesia, which can be obtained without general anesthesia. However, the use of local anesthetics on the tympanic membrane (TM) has been abandoned in many places, as general anesthesia has been readily available. LÄS MER
