  1. 1. Impact of Rossby waves on ozone distribution and dynamics of the stratosphere and troposphere

    Författare :Grigory Nikulin; Sheila Kirkwood; Ulrike Langematz; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Meteorology; ozone; wave activity; trends; Brewer-Dobson circulation; Rossby waves; Arctic Oscillation; low ozone events; Meteorologi; Meteorology; Meteorologi; Meteorology; meteorologi;

    Sammanfattning : Several physical mechanisms concerning the impact of Rossby waves on ozone distribution and circulation in the stratosphere and troposphere are studied in the thesis.Summertime total ozone variability over Middle Asia and Northern Scandinavia shows similar wave-like behaviour with typical periods of 10-20 days and amplitudes of 20-50 Dobson units. 2. 2. Coriolis generated secondary currents and their effects on turbulent channel flow

    Författare :Rolf Larsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Vattenteknik; Water Resources Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : The influence of secondary currents on various hydrodynamic processes in channel flow is discussed. Different mechanisms that generate secondary currents are presented. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Investigations of problems related to the choice of the initial state for numerical weather prediction models

    Författare :Stefan Gollvik; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : In numerical prediction models, where the wind and mass fields are described as free variables (so called primitive equation models), the initial state has to be carefully chosen, to avoid spurious oscillations in the forecast. This thesis deals with this initialization problem. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Land-atmosphere interactions and regional Earth system dynamics due to natural and anthropogenic vegetation changes

    Författare :Minchao Wu; MERGE: ModElling the Regional and Global Earth system; []
    Nyckelord :land-atmosphere interactions; RCA-GUESS; LPJ-GUESS; Vegetation dynamics; Fire;

    Sammanfattning : Observation and modelling studies have indicated that the global land surfaces have been undergoing significant changes in the past few decades, driven by both natural and anthropogenic factors, such as changes in ecosystem productivity, fire and land use. Land surface changes can potentially influence local and regional climate through land-atmosphere interactions. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Climate change and urban drainage : future precipitation and hydraulic impact

    Författare :Mats Olofsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Increasing global mean temperature influences the hydrologic cycle. In the 21st century, hydrologic change featuring more heavy precipitation events is very likely according to the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, IPCC. This change will have a great impact on urban environments and infrastructures. LÄS MER
