  1. 1. Why do rodent populations fluctuate? : stability and bifurcation analysis of some discrete and continuous predator-prey models

    Författare :Torsten Lindström; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Matematisk statistik; Matemathical Statistics;

    Sammanfattning : A review of the microtine rodent cycle problem is given as well as a review of mathematical results related to the microtine rodent cycle problem. Biologically, 1 treat dynamical consequences of generalist predation and optimal breeding behavior. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The spatial and temporal dynamics of plant-animal interactions in the forest herb Actaea spicata

    Författare :Hugo von Zeipel; Johan Ehrlén; Ove Eriksson; Saskya van Nouhuys; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Eupithecia immundata; parasitoid; rodent; seed predation; dispersal; recruitment; multitrophic; metapopulation; trophic cascades; community complexity; Biology; Biologi; Plant Ecology; växtekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Landscape effects on species performance currently receives much attention. Habitat loss and fragmentation are considered major threats to species diversity. Deciduous forests in southern Sweden are previous wooded pastures that have become species-rich communities appearing as islands in agricultural landscapes, varying in species composition. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Neutral proteases of rodent mast cells

    Författare :Carolina Lunderius; Uppsala universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Mast cells are important effector cells in general as well as in allergic inflammation andin the defence against helminthic parasites and bacteria. Two major populations, withdifferences in tissue distribution, have been identified; connective tissue mast cells andmucosal mast cells. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Predator responses to non-stationary rodent cycles

    Författare :Peter Hellström; Anders Angerbjörn; Xavier Lambin; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Buteo lagopus; Vulpes lagopus; Lemmus; Myodes; population cycles; predation; numerical response; functional response; arctic; lemmings; voles; fox; monitoring; raptors; zoologisk ekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Regular fluctuations in population size, cycles, are common in small mammals and have important effects on predator populations and life histories. In this thesis, I identify long-term patterns and processes in two specialist predators, the arctic fox Vulpes lagopus and the rough-legged buzzard Buteo lagopus, in relation to their prey (lemmings and voles) and in the case of the arctic fox also to a dominant competitor, the red fox Vulpes vulpes. 5. 5. Galanin receptor subtypes in rodent models of mood disorders

    Författare :Tara Wardi-Le Maitre; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; 5-HT1A receptor; galanin; galanin receptor 2 overexpressing mice; locus coeruleus; dorsal raphe; depression-like behavior; forced swim test;

    Sammanfattning : Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a serious mental illness, with a complex etiology. It is a multifactorial disorder caused by a combination of genetic, environmental and epigenetic factors. Exposure to stressful life events seems to be a common, contributing cause of morbidity.
