  1. 1. Multicriteria optimization for managing tradeoffs in radiation therapy treatment planning

    Författare :Rasmus Bokrantz; Anders Forsgren; Karl-Heinz Küfer; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Optimization; multicriteria optimization; robust optimization; Pareto optimality; Pareto surface approximation; Pareto surface navigation; intensity-modulated radiation therapy; volumetric-modulated arc therapy; intensity-modulated proton therapy; Optimering; flermålsoptimering; robust optimering; Paretooptimalitet; Paretofrontsapproximation; Paretofrontsnavigering; intensitetsmodulerad strålterapi; rotationsterapi; intensitetsmodulerad protonterapi;

    Sammanfattning : Treatment planning for radiation therapy inherently involves tradeoffs, such as between tumor control and normal tissue sparing, between time-efficiency and dose quality, and between nominal plan quality and robustness. The purpose of this thesis is to develop methods that can facilitate decision making related to such tradeoffs. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Contouring & planning variability in stereotactic radiosurgery : How to assess and address the weakest link in stereotactic radiosurgery?

    Författare :Helena Sandström; Iuliana Toma-Dasu; David Schlesinger; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stereotactic radiosurgery; contouring variability; robust treatment planning; Medical Radiation Physics; medicinsk strålningsfysik;

    Sammanfattning : The use of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) employing one or a few fractions of high doses of radiation has continuously increased due to the technical development in dose delivery and morphological and functional imaging. As the target volume in SRS is usually defined without margins, the treatment success critically depends on accurate definition and contouring of the target volume and organs at risk (OARs) which are commonly situated in the proximity of the target making their precise delineation particularly important in order to limit possible normal tissue complications. 3. 3. Toward Robust Optimization of Adaptive Radiation Therapy

    Författare :Michelle Böck; Anders Forsgren; Minsun Kim; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; optimization; adaptive radiation therapy; radiation therapy treatment planning; uncertainty; robust optimization; stochastic programming; Tillämpad matematik och beräkningsmatematik; Applied and Computational Mathematics;

    Sammanfattning : Adaptive radiation therapy is an evolving cancer treatment approach which relies on adapting the treatment plan in response to patient-specific interfractional geometric variations occurring during the fractionated treatment. If those variations are not addressed through adaptive replanning, the resulting treatment quality may be compromised. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Robust optimization of radiation therapy accounting for geometric uncertainty

    Författare :Albin Fredriksson; Anders Forsgren; Timothy C. Y. Chan; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Optimization; intensity-modulated proton therapy; uncertainty; robust planning; setup error; range error; intensity-modulated radiation therapy; multicriteria optimization;

    Sammanfattning : Geometric errors may compromise the quality of radiation therapy treatments. Optimization methods that account for errors can reduce their effects.The first paper of this thesis introduces minimax optimization to account for systematic range and setup errors in intensity-modulated proton therapy. 5. 5. Treatment Planning of High Dose-Rate Brachytherapy - Mathematical Modelling and Optimization

    Författare :Björn Morén; Torbjörn Larsson; Åsa Carlsson Tedgren; Bram Gorissen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Cancer is a widespread class of diseases that each year affects millions of people. It is mostly treated with chemotherapy, surgery, radiation therapy, or combinations thereof. High doserate (HDR) brachytherapy (BT) is one modality of radiation therapy, which is used to treat for example prostate cancer and gynecologic cancer. In BT, catheters (i. LÄS MER
