1. The “Dark Side” of Marine Spatial Planning : A study of domination, empowerment and freedom through theories of discourse and power
Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to contribute to the marine spatial planning (MSP) literature by elaborating a robust theoretical account of power for a more rigorous and balanced critical analysis of MSP. Conceived as a problem-solving regime, MSP has emerged as a radical approach to govern the use and protection of marine resources. LÄS MER
2. Robust and Energy Efficient Scheduling
Sammanfattning : Scheduling can generally be described as the act of allocating resources to tasks over time such that a given performance measure is optimized. Traditionally, disturbances are not considered while developing schedules. A rescheduling framework has thus emerged, aiming to minimize the impact of unforeseen disruptions. LÄS MER
3. Towards Effective Maintenance Planning
Sammanfattning : Manufacturing industry spend a great deal of their capital on equipment maintenance for their production systems. Hence, the cost of improper maintenance management is something that the industry would like to avoid. LÄS MER
4. Robust optimization of radiation therapy accounting for geometric uncertainty
Sammanfattning : Geometric errors may compromise the quality of radiation therapy treatments. Optimization methods that account for errors can reduce their effects. The first paper of this thesis introduces minimax optimization to account for systematic range and setup errors in intensity-modulated proton therapy. 5. Contouring & planning variability in stereotactic radiosurgery : How to assess and address the weakest link in stereotactic radiosurgery?
Sammanfattning : The use of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) employing one or a few fractions of high doses of radiation has continuously increased due to the technical development in dose delivery and morphological and functional imaging. As the target volume in SRS is usually defined without margins, the treatment success critically depends on accurate definition and contouring of the target volume and organs at risk (OARs) which are commonly situated in the proximity of the target making their precise delineation particularly important in order to limit possible normal tissue complications.
