  1. 1. Exploring Road Traffic Interactions Between Highly Automated Vehicles and Vulnerable Road Users

    Författare :Victor Fabricius; Pontus Wärnestål; Jonas Andersson; Barry Brown; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Automated driving system; Vulnerable road user; Traffic interaction; User Experience;

    Sammanfattning : Understandings of road traffic interactions are largely based on human-human interactions. However, the development of vehicles controlled by highly auto- mated driving systems (ADS) would introduce a radically novel type of road user. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Facing failures : interactions between drivers and advanced driver assistance systems

    Författare :Niklas Strand; Håkan Alm; Statens väg- och transportforskningsinstitut; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Adaptive cruise control; Driver assistance system; Driver; Behaviour; Thesis; Adaptiva farthållare; Förarstödssystem; Förare; Beteende; Doktorsavhandling; 841 Road: Road user behaviour; 841 Road: Road user behaviour; 914 Road: ITS och vehicle technology; 914 Road: ITS och vehicle technology; 911 Road: Components of the vehicle; 911 Road: Components of the vehicle;

    Sammanfattning : Drivers’ interactions with advanced driver assistance systems based on experiences from real driving and results from driving in a driving simulator were under investigation in this thesis. Questions posed were: - How do drivers perceive and interact with ADAS? - How are (technical) failures handled by drivers, and which are the consequences’ of these failures? - Which are the implications for diagnosis and detection of failures, as well as for system development? Special attention was given to driver behavior in response to technical failures in an adaptive cruise control system. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Analyzing real-world data to promote development of active safety systems that reduce car-to-vulnerable road user accidents

    Författare :Azra Habibovic; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Accident prevention; Naturalistic observation; Causation analysis; Active safety system; Vulnerable road user VRU ; Driver behavior; Functional requirements; Statistical analysis; VRU behavior;

    Sammanfattning : The overall objective of the thesis is to explore various types of real-world road traffic data and to assess the extent to which they can inform the design of active safety systems that aim to prevent car-to-vulnerable road user (VRU) accidents. A combined analysis of in-depth and police reported accident data provided information on driver behavior and contextual variables, which is valuable for the development of active safety systems. 4. 4. Defining and applying surrogate safety measures and behavioural indicators through site-based observations

    Författare :Tim de Ceunynck; Trafik och väg; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Surrogate safety measures; behavioural indicators; traffic safety; site-based observations; traffic conflicts; traffic conflict techniques; road user interactions;

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation looks into surrogate safety measures and behavioural indicators that are collected through site-based observations. Surrogate safety measures are defined as measurements that are used to describe the relationship between two road users in a traffic event for the purpose of quantifying the crash probability and/or the potential crash severity in a meaningful way. 5. 5. A method for analysing the traffic process in a safety perspective

    Författare :Åse Svensson; Trafik och väg; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; intermediate method; Accidents; pedestrian safety; safety hierarchy; severity; traffic conflicts; interaction; road user behaviour; traffic safety; traffic process; time to accidents; safety indicators; surrogate measures;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this study is to extend the traffic safety assessment concept to also include normal road user behaviour, thus not only exceptional behaviours such as accidents and serious conflicts. The goal is to provide a framework for a more thorough description and analysis of safety related road user behaviour in order to better understand the traffic safety processes. LÄS MER
