  1. 1. Road Design for Future Maintenance : Life-cycle Cost Analyses for Road Barriers

    Författare :Hawzheen Karim; Björn Birgisson; Ulf Isacsson; Rolf Magnusson; Robert Thomson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; road maintenance; road management; road planning; road design; life-cycle cost; road barrier; guardrails; cable barrier; road traffic injuries; barrier collisions and barrier repair costs.; Civil engineering and architecture; Samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur; Vägprojektering för minskade drift- och underhållskostnader;

    Sammanfattning : The cost of a road construction over its service life is a function of design, quality of construction as well as maintenance strategies and operations. An optimal life-cycle cost for a road requires evaluations of the above mentioned components. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Improved road design for future maintenance : analysis of road barrier repair costs

    Författare :Hawzheen Karim; Ulf Isacsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; highway maintenance; highway management; highway design; road planning; road design; highway engineering; road barrier; cable barrier; w-beam barrier; road barrier damages; barrier repair cost.; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik; Vägprojektering för minskade drift- och underhållskostnader;

    Sammanfattning : The cost of a road construction over its service life is a function of the design, quality of construction, maintenance strategies and maintenance operations. Unfortunately, designers often neglect a very important aspect which is the possibility to perform future maintenance activities. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Management with the People : An Enabling Approach to Neighbourhood Road Infrastructure Management in Kampala City

    Författare :Ian Senkatuka; Örjan Svane; Barnabas Nawangwe; Wilbard Kombe; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Urbanisation; Developing Country; Infrastructure; Neighbourhood Road; Management; Community Participation; Civil engineering and architecture; Samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : Rapid urbanization occurring in many developing countries coupled with the constraints they are facing, has affected road infrastructure service delivery by public authorities charged with managing them. In Kampala City’s mixed income neighbourhood areas that have a disparity between neighbourhood community members, inadequate neighbourhood road management by Kampala City Council who are charged with managing these roads has led to neighbourhood roads that are in a poor state of disrepair, and do not meet many of the needs of their users. 4. 4. Life Cycle Costing in Road Planning and Management : A Case Study on Collision-free Roads

    Författare :Jonas Wennström; Håkan Sundquist; Tommy Edeskär; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; collision-free road; design; infrastructure; investment; life cycle costing; life cycle cost analysis; maintenance; management; operation; planning; road; sustainability;

    Sammanfattning : Construction of infrastructure does not only mean large capital investments but also future costs to operate and maintain these assets. Decision making in planning and design of roads will impact the need of future operation and maintenance activities. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Access management in intermodal freight terminals: The perspective of road haulier operations

    Författare :Stefan Jacobsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; road haulier operations; information exchange; differentiation and segmentation strategies; resource efficiency; intermodal freight terminals; access management;

    Sammanfattning : Given its possibilities of switching freight from road to more sustainable modes such as rail, inland water ways and seaways, intermodal freight transportation depends on environmental and economic variables. At the same time, intermodal freight transportation is essentially complex due to the variety of modes of transport and their corresponding actors. LÄS MER
