Sammanfattning : FASTING DURING THE holy month of Ramadan is both a joy and a jihad for the Islamic community in Java, and it is arguably the most highly esteemed Muslim ritual in Indonesia (and beyond). To be given the opportunity to abstain from food, drink and sexual relations from the early morning hours until sunset during an entire month in a tropical climate - only to fill the nights with additional and supererogatory Ramadanic rituals - is thus waited upon each year and seen as a true blessing. Sammanfattning : This dissertation examines aspects of the experience of being a student at Nääs’ sloydseminar between 1880 and 1940 and what consequences it had for the participants. The experience was more or less consciously constructed by the charismatic leader Otto Salomon and after his death in 1907 the responsability of ”composing” the experience was put on Rurik Holm, pedagogical manager between 1913 and 1942. Sammanfattning : According to common scholarly opinion, early Arabic poetry encompasses a distinct genre which laments the dead, and which is the specific Arabic realisation of a universal, cross-culturally widespread genre of lamentation. Moreover, this genre — which commonly is referred to as ‘elegy’, but in the thesis, as ‘threnody’ — is identified with the type of poetry that in Arabic poetics is called riṯāʼ or marṯiya. LÄS MER
