  1. 1. Strain echocardiography in cardiac surgery - studies on the effects of loading conditions and inotropic agents on myocardial contraction and relaxation

    Författare :Martin Fredholm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; strain echocardiography; right heart catheterization; cardiac surgery; heart failure; levosimendan; milrinone; left ventricular function; right ventricular function; systole; diastole; preload; afterload; pacing; longitudinal function; ventricular dimensions; ventricular interdependence;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Although reductions in myocardial contractility and relaxation are key compo-nents in heart failure (HF), assessment of them is difficult, as clinical measurements deal with a net effect of myocardial contractility, heart filling (preload), outflow impedance (afterload) and heart rate (HR). Echocardiographic (echo) deformation parameters, like strain (myocardial shortening) and strain rate (the speed of deformation, SR), have been proposed to more accu-rately measure myocardial function, but incongruent previous studies have raised concerns that they may be load-dependent. 2. 2. Pulsed Tissue Doppler and left ventricular filling in acute coronary syndromes

    Författare :Cecilia Wallentin Guron; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Tissue Doppler; pulsed; regional timing; time interval; the E e filling index; E E; ; diastolic function; left ventricular filling pressure; right ventricular pressure; left atrial size.;

    Sammanfattning : Pulsed tissue Doppler is a new technique, which can investigate longitudinal left ventricular(LV) function, by measuring tissue velocities and timings. Patients with acute coronarysyndromes (ACS) frequently display a reduced longitudinal function. They also developglobal LV filling impairment. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Mechanical and histological disturbances in advanced heart failure and cardiac transplantation

    Författare :Matteo Cameli; Michael Henein; Guy Lloyd; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Advanced heart failure; heart transplantation; speckle tracking echocardiography; left ventricular function; right ventricular function; left ventricular fibrosis; left ventricular filling pressure; atrial strain; kariologi; Cariology;

    Sammanfattning : The general purpose of this thesis is to establish capability and accuracy of speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) in assessing left atrial (LA), left ventricular (LV) and right ventricular (RV) function and their correlation with myocardial fibrosis, filling pressure and clinical outcomes in advanced heart failure (HF) patients before and after heart transplantation (HT).I demonstrated that HT recipients had impaired LV twist dynamics in the form of reduced rotation twist angle and untwist rate but time to peak twist was not different from the age matched controls and other cardiac surgical patients. 4. 4. Right ventricular function in pulmonary embolism

    Författare :Riikka Rydman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with pulmonary embolism (PE) and right ventricular (RV) dysfunction are known to be at risk of in-hospital clinical worsening and PE-related mortality. Even in patients with a preserved systemic arterial pressure, the RV dysfunction indicates a higher risk, thus affecting the patients’ level of care and the therapeutic approach. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Three-dimensional assessment of cardiac function; When right is wrong

    Författare :Ellen Ostenfeld; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Key words Three-dimensional echocardiography; cardiac magnetic resonance imaging; cardiac function; volumes; atria; ventricles; pulmonary hypertension; right heart catheterization; right ventricular pressure load.;

    Sammanfattning : Assessment of the right side of the heart is important in patients with heart disease; especially in patient with elevated pressure in the lung circulation. Decreased right ventricular function and elevated pressure in the right atrium are of poor prognostic value. LÄS MER
