1. Rift Valley fever : consequences of virus-host interactions
Sammanfattning : Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV) is a mosquito-borne virus which has the ability to infect a large variety of animals including humans in Africa and Arabian Peninsula. The abortion rate among these animals are close to 100%, and young animals develop severe disease which often are lethal. LÄS MER
2. Rift Valley fever : development of diagnostics and vaccines
Sammanfattning : Rift Valley Fever virus (RVFV) causes an infection with severe impact on animal and human health. The disease is endemic throughout almost the entire African continent and large regions of the Arabian Peninsula. During epidemics, high mortality is observed in animals, especially among cattle, goats, and sheep. LÄS MER
3. Rift Valley fever : challenges and new insights for prevention and control using the “One Health” approach
Sammanfattning : Rift Valley fever (RVF) is an emerging viral zoonosis that causes frequent outbreaks in east Africa and on the Arabian Peninsula. The likelihood of RVF global expansion due to climate change and human anthropogenic factors is an important issue. LÄS MER
4. Volcanism at the tip of a propagating rift : the Heimaey volcanic centre, south Iceland
Sammanfattning : Primary magmas are generated by 4-6% partial melting near the garnet-spinel stability fields beneath Heimaey (i.e. 80-65 km depth). The magmas fractionate 31% olivine and clinopyroxene en-route to ponding at the base of the crust (and forming a parental Vestmannaeyjar magma). LÄS MER
5. Interaction of Segments along Rifts that Separate Continents and Ridges that Spread Ocean Floors
Sammanfattning : The face of the Earth is constantly renewed by continental rifts that open and allow ridges to spread oceanic floor. Both types of these linear extensional structures are morphologically and structurally segmented. This thesis aims to provide insights into the interaction of such segments as they propagate and mature. LÄS MER
