  1. 1. Studies of Retroviral Reverse Transcriptase and Flaviviral Protease Enzymes as Antiviral Drug Targets : Applications in Antiviral Drug Discovery & Therapy

    Författare :Muhammad Junaid; Jarl ES Wikberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Virus; enzymes; HIV AIDS; retroviral reverse transcriptase; flaviviral protease; NRTIs; proteochemometrics; drug resistance; DEN; JEV; NS2B H -NS3pro; antiviral; drug targets; drug discovery; drug therapy.; Farmakologi; Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : Viruses are a major threat to humans due to their unique adaptability, evolvability and  capability to control their hosts as parasites and genetic elements. HIV/AIDS is the third largest cause of death by infectious diseases in the world, and drug resistance due to the viral mutations is still the leading cause of treatment failure. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Retroviral and related nucleic acid processing enzymes expression and detection : Applications on clinical studies of HIV and HERVs

    Författare :Raymond Awad; Amnon Hizi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Reverse transcriptase; endogenous retrovirus; deoxycytidine kinase; HIV; HERVS; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medical Virology; medicinsk virologi;

    Sammanfattning : Reverse transcriptase (RT), the expression and detection of the enzyme marking the family Retroviridae, has been studied. A new RT activity assay adapted to 96-well microtitre plates is described. It uses a non- radioactive bromodeoxyuridine triphosphate (BrdUTP) substrate in a solid phase format. The assay was highly sensitive. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Evaluation of reverse transcriptase assay for viral load monitoring

    Författare :Gary E Corrigan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Retaining an active reverse transcriptase (RT) enzyme is a fundamental requirement for all retroviruses to replicate. Bearing in mind that HIV has a very high propensity to mutate measuring RT activity to determine the level of retroviral replication has the capacity to eliminate problems associated with divergence, as the virus at all costs must retain an active RT enzyme. 4. 4. Human Endogenous Retroviruses: Studies on Transcriptional Activity and Genetic Variability

    Författare :Patrik Medstrand; Malmö Klinisk virologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; virology; bacteriology; HERVs; Human endogenous retrovirus sequences; reverse transcriptase; Microbiology; differential RNA expression.; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Endogenous retroviruses (ERVs) are believed to be remains of germ-line infections that have become fixed in the population. They are involved in pathophysiological conditions, in mechanisms leading to infection protection, and directly in the physiology of the organism by participating in the regulation of cellular gene expression. 5. 5. Kinetics of HIV-1 drug resistance mutations in vivo

    Författare :Veronica Svedhem Johansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :HIV-1; anti-retroviral therapy; drug resistance; therapy failure; rebound; persistence; wildtype virus; SPCR; minor population;

    Sammanfattning : Antiretroviral therapy (ARV) exert a selective pressure on HIV-1 and may select viral drug resistant strains which have competitive advantage in the presence of the drug. Knowledge about the appearance and disappearance of these mutations is important when choosing ARV. LÄS MER
