  1. 1. Retrieval practice and individual differences : exploring factors relevant to the benefit and use of retrieval practice

    Författare :Frida Bertilsson; Tova Stenlund; Anna Sundström; Shana Carpenter; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; retrieval practice; testing effect; individual differences; cognition; personality; learning; Psychology; psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : When students are studying outside of the classroom, they tend to use learning strategies that research has found to be relatively ineffective. This is problematic as a relatively large proportion of students do not finish compulsory school and/or upper-secondary school with sufficient grades. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Effects of retrieval and articulation on memory

    Författare :Max Larsson Sundqvist; Fredrik Jönsson; Timo Mäntylä; Peter Verkoeijen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; testing effect; covert retrieval; overt retrieval; judgments of learning; delayed JOL effect; response format; retention interval; Psychology; psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : Many would agree that learning occurs when new information is stored in memory. Therefore, most learning efforts typically focus on encoding processes, such as additional study or other forms of repetition. However, as I will outline in this thesis, there are other means by which to improve memory, such as retrieval practice in the form of tests. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Pictures and a Thousand Words : Learning Psychology through Visual Illustrations and Testing

    Författare :Ann-Sofie Jägerskog; Fredrik Jönsson; Staffan Selander; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; learning; multimedia learning; retrieval practice; testing effect; visual illustration; learning styles; visualiser; verbaliser; Subject Learning and Teaching; ämnesdidaktik;

    Sammanfattning : For teachers and students to be able to make informed decisions about how to best improve learning, it is important to compare learning strategies that are known to be effective. Both multimedia learning, based on the notion that individuals learn better from words and pictures presented together than from words alone, and retrieval practice, based on the idea that retrieving knowledge from the memory is an active process that has a beneficial impact on learning, have been found robust learning strategies in earlier research. 4. 4. Brain-based teaching : behavioral and neuro-cognitive evidence for the power of test-enhanced learning

    Författare :Carola Wiklund-Hörnqvist; Bert Jonsson; Lars Nyberg; Linnea Karlsson; Jeffrey D. Karpicke; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; learning; memory; memory processes; the testing effect; test-enhanced learning; retrieval practice; evidence-based teaching methods; neuro-cognitive processes; working memory; memory strength; semantic elaboration; Psychology; psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : A primary goal of education is the acquisition of durable knowledge which challenges the use of efficient pedagogical methods of how to best facilitate learning. Research in cognitive psychology has demonstrated that repeated testing during the learning phase improves performance on later retention tests compared to restudy of material. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Advancing trace recovery evaluation: Applied information retrieval in a software engineering context

    Författare :Markus Borg; Institutionen för datavetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; information retrieval; traceability; software engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Successful development of software systems involves efficient navigation among software artifacts. However, as artifacts continuously are produced and modified, engineers are typically plagued by challenging information landscapes. LÄS MER
