6. Retinal morphology and function in prematurely-born children at school age
Sammanfattning : Preterm birth may lead to complications during the neonatal period that can cause visual dysfunctions. Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and neurological complications are well known reasons for visual dysfunctions, but preterm children with no or only mild ROP and no evident neurological problems may also be affected visually when they grow up. 7. Spatial Vision in Birds: Anatomical investigation of spatial resolving power
Sammanfattning : Avian eyes are big both in relative and absolute terms, thus the importance of vision to birds is obvious. Even though the general eye plan is rather conservative throughout the group, there is a great variation in visual capabilities. LÄS MER
8. Neuronal Development in the Embryonic Retina : Focus on the Characterization, Generation and Development of Horizontal Cell Subtypes
Sammanfattning : Horizontal cells are retinal interneurons that modulate the output from photoreceptors. Two horizontal cell (HC) subtypes are commonly identified in the vertebrate retina: axon-bearing and axon-less HCs. LÄS MER
9. Generation of Retinal Neurons : Focus on the Proliferation and Differentiation of the Horizontal Cells and their Subtypes
Sammanfattning : We have used the chicken retina as a model for investigating cell cycle regulation and cell fate commitment during central nervous system development. This thesis focuses on the characterization of and commitment to the horizontal cell fate in the retina. LÄS MER
10. Bio-inspired retinal optic flow perception in robotic navigation
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns the bio-inspired visual perception of motion with emphasis on locomotion targeting robotic systems. By continuously registering moving visual features in the human retina, a sensation of a visual flow cue is created. An interpretation of visual flow cues forms a low-level motion perception more known as retinal optic flow. LÄS MER
