11. Effects of Ischaemia on the Neuroretina and Retinal Blood Vessels
Sammanfattning : Identification of the intracellular signal transduction pathways activated in retinal ischaemia may be important in revealing novel pharmacological targets. The retinal blood vessels are key organs in circulatory failure, and in this work the retinal vasculature was therefore examined separately from the neuroretina. LÄS MER
12. Comparing retinal function and structure in diabetic maculopathy and retinal detachment with ff-ERG and a combination of mfERG and OCT
Sammanfattning : Diabetic maculopathy and retinal detachment, especially involving macula, are potentially sight-threatening conditions. Previous evaluations of retinal function, and treatment of these conditions have been subjective methods depending on the examiner or the collaboration with the examined patient. LÄS MER
13. Genes and proteins controlled by cGMP-PKG during retinal degeneration
Sammanfattning : prevalence was reported as 1:3000-4000 worldwide, making it the main reason for blindness in the working population in industrial countries. The mutations of over 70 genes have been related to this genetic disorder, and there is generally no effective treatment, except for gene therapy for the RPE65 mutations. LÄS MER
14. Experimental Neuroretinal Transplantation
Sammanfattning : Embryonic full-thickness rabbit neuroretinal sheets were transplanted to the subretinal space of adult hosts. This was accomplished by using a new transplantation technique involving vitrectomy and retinotomy. The grafts were followed from 10 to 306 days after surgery, and were then examined by different histological techniques. LÄS MER
15. Electrophysiology and optical coherence tomography in acquired and hereditary retinal disorders
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, retinal function in general, as well as central retinal function and structure are described in selected forms of acquired and hereditary retinal disorders, in order to improve our understanding of underlying pathogenic mechanisms. This comparison has been made possible during the last years, through the relatively recent development of multifocal ERG (mfERG) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) for the analysis of central retinal function and structure, respectively.
